Noble Works is an adult visual novel game that is ideal if you want a visual novel that is packing a great deal of content, but you also want the story to be light and not too complex so that you have to think really hard to keep up with what is going on. I thought that this offered a fairly decent if a little uneven experience and it is a visual novel that at the very least is worth a little bit of your time.
The Prince And The Pauper
Seriously, if I had to compare the plot of Noble Works to another story it would be the classic Prince and the Pauper. I remember seeing a Mickey Mouse version of this when I was a kid, but this has a lot more larger breasts than the Disney version. Anyway, in all seriousness, the plot is not exactly going to make you think, but it is more than enough to keep you going.
The main character is called, Takumi and this guy lives in poverty, even though he has a million jobs. His life changes when he is hired by a very rich family to be the body double for their son and take over his life for a while. It is very weird and the premise is interesting, but it is more just an excuse to put Takumi in situations where he meets chicks.
Back, Back And Forth And Forth
I love the visuals of this game! Each of the girls that you will be dealing with and the dudebros as well are all designed very well. The characters and the various backgrounds all look great, but it is the little things that really set Noble Works apart from the rest. I would not say that the game is “fully animated” however, these characters do move around quite a bit and they have very expressive faces which help you see them more as individuals.
The sound in the game is a bit of a mixed bag. Each character has their own theme and these are very fitting, but these themes play no matter what, so if a character has an upbeat theme, but what they are saying is sad it can lead to a bit of a disconnect. There is some great Japanese voice acting here too and I would love it if a team took a crack at adding English voices to the game.
The Sinister Six
Noble Works offers you five routes that you can experience. As you would expect each of the routes is centered around a particular girl that Takumi is trying to get it on with. The plot is not super deep and it is pretty easy to steer things in the direction that you want the story to end up going in.
Once you have beaten all of the five routes, the sixth and bonus route will open up. I have to say this was rather disappointing and it did not feel like a good reward for playing through all the other routes.
If you ask me, Noble Works is a solid visual novel experience. At the time I played it, it offered just what I wanted from a visual novel. There is a lot of content here, but it is mostly fluff and very easy to get into, understand, and get through. The game also looks fantastic and has some of the most expressive character work I have seen in a visual novel for a very long time.
- I thought that the writing was solid
- Takumi was a pretty interesting dude
- Each of the ladies offers something different
- The visuals are fantastic in every regard
- I liked how the characters were able to express themselves
- While there are six routes, some of them are not very good at all
- I do wish there was an English voice track
