Super Neptunia RPG

As you have probably guessed, Super Neptunia RPG is part of the long running Neptunia series of games. What is neat about this one is that it is more of a spin off or a side game. It is something that people with no prior knowledge of the franchise can jump in and have fun with. At the same time, there are many little nods and references to past games and characters so that those of us who are familiar with the series can get a kick out of it.

I Have Lost My Memories!

As this is an RPG, it is very story-driven and I do not want to come and spoil things for you guys. In Super Neptunia RPG, we once again play as the spunky and feisty Neptunia. This time she has awoken and she has lost her memory. She ends up part of this quest which includes some other familiar faces trying to save the 3D world from going back to 3D.

It is silly, charming and it does not take itself too seriously at all. Those of you who love the visuals novel games in the series will be pleased to know that the same style of writing and humor is present here.

The Second Dimension

This is a 2D RPG and it is a damn solid one at that. Super Neptunia RPG has you exploring and taking on various quests to move the story along as you would expect. You will also have to partake in side quests. The side quests are not all that interesting, but they are a great way to give you some XP. The game is a bit of a “where the hell am I supposed to go?” style of game and I wish they were a bit more forthcoming with what you are supposed to do or where you are supposed to go. You do eventually figure it out, but I spent a great deal of time wandering around, trying to interact with everything I could to move things along.

The Battle, RPGs Live Or Die By The Battle

Super Neptunia RPG has a pretty interesting battle system. At first, I did not like it! Battles happen in real time and you have to watch a little meter fill up and you can then decide what kind of attack you want to do, do you let the meter fill up more to do a powerful attack, or do you just do quick and less damaging attacks? Eventually, you get people added to your party and this is where combat really opens up. Each of the characters in your party is controlled via the button above their head. It is an easy to learn system and thanks to the elemental system and the way it throws health at you, it never becomes frustrating.

Neptunia In 2D Is Gorgeous!

I have to say that Super Neptunia RPG is a truly gorgeous looking game. I have played it on PC, but I am thinking of getting the Switch version as well to see these visuals on my fancy new OLED screen. The characters have a ton of charm to them and they are brought to life with some excellent voice acting. The backgrounds and the enemies are all finely detailed and I think I would go as far as to say this is one of the best-looking games in the series.

I have to say that Super Neptunia RPG is not a perfect one, but it is a very fun game. This was actually made by a Western developer which I think is pretty interesting.

Pros:

• I loved how quirky the characters were
• The story was a lot of fun
• Eventually, the combat system becomes very enjoyable
• This is a very good looking game

Cons:

• It can be hard sometimes to know where to go or what to do
• When you just have Neptunia in the beginning, combat is not as much fun
