Tell Me Why

Tell Me Why is a story-based adventure game that puts you in control of your destiny. The game focuses on two twins, Tyler and Alyson, who reunite after a decade apart. With their past shrouded in secrecy, the twins try to fit into a normal life, but must face their demons before long. Similar to other adventure games, Tell Me Why offers branching story paths, dialogue decisions, and more, with the player acting as a sort of director for the action. Depending on your actions, Tyler and Alyson's story can end in drastically different ways, and it's up to you to be the judge. Fans of adventure games will definitely enjoy this interesting and dark story.

Main Game Features

  • Three episodes to play
  • Unique endings based on your decisions
  • Solve puzzles, make choices, and explore

Story

Tell Me Why follows Tyler and Alyson Ronan, two twins who are separated after a deadly incident in their childhood that left their mother dead. After Tyler confessed to the murder of his mother, he was sent to a juvenile detention center to serve his sentence. Now, ten years later, Tyler reunites with Alyson and the pair hopes to sell their childhood home in Delos Crossing, Alaska.

However, as memories resurface and the stress of that fateful night returns, the twins must face the consequences of their actions. With their bond as siblings in jeopardy, they must uncover the truth behind their mother's accident and settle the score. Generally speaking, Tell Me Why offers an exciting mystery with enough twists and turns to motivate you through its three episodes.

Gameplay

Similar in style to games like Telltale's The Walking Dead or The Wolf Among Us, Tell Me Why is all about exploring your environment, looking for clues, and talking with other characters. At the beginning of the game, the twins arrive at Delos Crossing intending to sell their mother's house, but begin to search for clues behind their traumatic childhood. Players control both Alyson and Tyler, having conversations with characters and solving puzzles along the way. Collectibles can also be gathered to learn about the world and its events, giving your more context to make decisions.

In a unique twist, Tyler and Alyson share a telepathic link that lets them experience memories and talk to each other without speaking, leading to some very interesting moments. A main theme of the game is the unreliable nature of memory, as Tyler and Alyson will recall different conclusions to various memories. It's up to the player to decide who's right and wrong, and those decisions will have a lasting effect on the narrative. Although there isn't much action or fast-paced gameplay, Tell Me Why has enough non-dialogue content to keep you engaged.

Conclusion

Like the best narrative adventure games, Tell Me Why has an intriguing story that always keeps you hooked. Episodes often end on a cliffhanger, pushing you to continue. While some of the gameplay elements are underwhelming, the story is groundbreaking, with some meaningful themes and ideas.
