With a title like A Petal Among Thorns, this sounds more like a piece of poetry rather than a lewd visual novel. While some may be put off by the fact that this is a story about incest, it has a rather unique approach to the subject that sets it apart from all the other lewd games that deal with this. It made for a rather interesting “slow burn” kind of story that I did find myself wanting to get to the end of.

We Both Lie Silently Still

Hey, can you even read the title A Petal Among Thorns without thinking of the hit song, Every Rose Has It’s Thorn by Poison, the greatest hair metal band ever? Anyway, the reason for the title is that the young lady in question here is actually called Petal. The MC, is the father and he is a comedian, but the set that he performs could not have gone any worse. He and his daughter decide to hit the road and go on a vacation to get away from it and to try and relax, but the daughter actually has other motives!

Nothing But A Good Time!

I am not usually into stories about incest, but A Petal Among Thorns has a pretty interesting way of dealing with this taboo fetish. Rather than the father being turned on by the daughter, it is the daughter who wants a piece of the dad and he actually tries to resist. It makes for a much slower paced story, but it manages to build up a great deal of sexual tension. To be honest, this same story, but with them not being related would have been pretty epic to be honest with you. I am not into this fetish at all, but the approach and the fact they make it certain that this is his grown up adult daughter are better than what many other games try to do.

That Unskinny Bop!

I do think that the developer/writer having such a clear way of which they wanted A Petal Among Thorns to go did mean that they had to keep this a rather linear kind of lewd visual novel. You are not going to be making a ton of important choices here, but with the way it is all presented to you, you do feel like you are a crucial part of the story and that what you do does matter. It just may not have enough interactivity for those who like to be really involved with the way the story goes. I felt that it was most certainly a one and done style of game as I could not see myself playing through this again.

Yes, all of the titles for each section have been Poison songs, do yourself a favor and go listen to their greatest hits right now! A Petal Among Thorns is a great looking lewd visual novel. Petal looks young, but not too young if you know what I am saying. Look, if it were not for the daddy and daughter thing, I would be saying that the lewd content here is super hot thanks to the way it builds up the sexual tension. I can certainly appreciate how well done the character renders are and how realistic it all looks, but due to it being about incest, it never turned me on.

If you took away this being a dad and his daughter and had it be even a stepdaughter, A Petal Among Thorns would probably have scored a whole point higher! If incest does not bother you, you will probably like this even more than I did. I was very impressed with how the story was told and felt that the developer had a clear intension of where they wanted this story to go. Give this one a try, even if incest is something you usually stay away from.

I was not sure A Petal Among Thorns was going to be a game for me, but I was very impressed by what the developer was trying to do here. This is a lewd visual novel game that has a pretty well written story. Now, I will warn you that this is a daddy/daughter style of game and that thing is usually a massive turn off for me if I am being honest with you. However, this one goes about this taboo subject in a different way than most other games of this style tend to do.

The Winter Of Our Discontent

We have two main characters in A Petal Among Thorns. We have the dad and then we have the daughter who is called Petal. The dad is trying to be a stand-up comedian and after a disastrous show, he and his daughter head away together on a mountain retreat to try and relax and get away from the stress of it all, but on this retreat, taboo feelings start to grow.

Now What You Would Think

The interesting thing about the story here is that 99/100 in a game like this, it will be the dad who is trying to corrupt the daughter and who is lusting after her. A Petal Among Thorns does things a bit. The connection between the two grows and grows and it is actually the daughter, Petal that is really the instigator of things in this story. I will admit the daddy/daughter thing still kind of grosses me out, but at least the developer is trying to do it in a more unique way than we usually see.

The Only Name More Fitting Would Be Rose

If you have played a lewd visual novel game that has a more realistic look to it before, you will think that A Petal Among Thorns has a really familiar look to it. The best thing about this game has to be the daughter, Petal. She is very cute, but you can also tell that she has a naughty side as well. The lewd content in the game does have some basic animation, but it is better than nothing. To be honest with you, your enjoyment out of the lewd scenes (of which there are quite a few) will ultimately come down to if you can stomach this relationship.

Going Where It Wants To Go

I have to give the developer credit for having a clear vision of the story that they wanted to tell in A Petal Among Thorns and sticking with it. As I said, I think it is quite clever the way that it is the daughter who is trying to make things happen in this game. As the story is so focused and direct, it does mean that the player does not have a great deal of control over things. You do get to make the odd choice here and there, but there are no multiple endings or anything like that for you to try and get.

If someone told me that they loved this game and wanted to score it at an 8/10 or perhaps even higher, I could see why. A Petal Among Thorns is a well made lewd visual novel that has an interesting take on the whole incest thing. As I have said multiple times in this review, that is one of the fetishes I just cannot get super into and as a result, the game is not really for me. However, I can appreciate how well made the game is and how much effort went into creating this story.
