Does anything surprise us anymore in a video game world of lewd dating sims, raunchy digital novels, and RPGs with overly sexualized content? Standby, because of Amorous might. It's not shocking in the way you'd expect where every game tries to outdo each other in terms of sleaze. The game is a dating sim for furries. And if you're not sure what that means, you're going to either laugh or cry.
Here we have one of the few games around to receive an 'Adults Only' rating, giving Amorous a sense of notoriety already. However, the art style and theme of the game would seem like an innocent dating sim with cute animals on the surface. It's one of those games you want to explore more, yet you're not sure you should. Curiosity has us on this one, though.
You'll Find Me in the Club.
Where do we even begin exploring a concept like Amorous? We're going into this game with the preconceived notion that the furry following is a strange, unexplained phenomenon as a romance subset. The reality exists, and the developers might have hit the nail on the head creating a game for this market.
It's hard to argue that there isn't effort put into Amorous, though. The core gameplay is a visual novel that dates 9 other furries. Mechanically, it's actually one of the most diverse of the genre you'll see. Where plenty of graphic novels is rushed just to satisfy some lewd cravings, the level of interaction in the game is high. It makes dating actually a challenge rather than something with minimal gameplay and quick reward.
Players will have to complete a palette of minigames for date activities - cooking, shooting, and texting thrown into the mix. And it will take some charm and wit in dialogue to ensure they successfully woo their date into the ultimate reward. I'm pretty sure you can guess what that will be!
There's a double-edged sword about Amorous. One side is that this visual novel is actually much better than most you would find on the market. There's clearly effort made to create a palatable game. The opposite, though, is that the theme won't exactly appeal to a vast majority of players, given the stigma attached.
Something's a Bit Furry
This is one of those scenarios where you'll have to play the game to determine whether you like it. What we can say is that from a mechanical point of view, Amorous might be one of the better indie dating sims out there. However, you can't help feel a little uncomfortable if you're not in tune with furry culture.
Gameplay-wise, it's far better than traditionally-themed adult visual novels like Dreams of Desire: Definitive Edition. Let's wrap up by saying that if you're open-minded or a furry enthusiast, you might enjoy Amorous very much. Otherwise, the curious would have to take playthroughs with a grain of salt.
