In this new strange, tech-literate world that we live in, its almost impossible to not have a relationship with technology. Whether that be a strained one or one where you rely wholeheartedly on tech, it’s difficult to ignore the importance of gadgets and gizmos. For some, these machines can take over your life, leading to an existence with minimal human interaction. Well, Cabin Fever is a visual novel that explores this topic and allowing you to enjoy a story that reforms an off the grid programmer into a head over heels romantic.
This game plays like other visual novels of this nature such as Doki Doki Literature Club, Nekopara, Emily is Away <3 and HuniePop. Cabin Fever is a heartfelt story that contains serendipity, a clash of ideals and true romance. However, is this one worth investing your time and money into? We find out in our review of Cabin Fever.
A Heartwarming Experience
Every visual novel is ultimately judged on the story that it tries to tell. How well written is it? Are the characters lovable and relatable? Are the twists and turns shocking and compelling? In the case of Cabin Fever, we are happy to say that the game kicks all the boxes. The characters within this title are excellently written, the off the grid programmer meets socialite dynamic is perfect for this game and the plot remains gripping from start to end. Meaning that anyone who plays this game will walk away having experienced a truly unique story.
Then with regards to the presentation of this game. The artwork, musical score and voice acting are absolutely top-notch. The environments, indoor segments and other beautifully hand-drawn stills are rendered excellently to immerse the player fully. Plus, we have to commend the game for having voice acting at all, most games of this nature go with a purely text-based approach and it’s refreshing to see a game try something daring to great effect.
The only downside of this game is that it is very short. Most players will have seen everything that this game has to offer within about three hours. Which includes going back and playing again to see all other outcomes and perhaps see some of the more X-rated scenes you missed. However, thanks to the low price point of the game and the overall quality of the product, we are willing to overlook this. However, if this game was to ever warrant a sequel we would absolutely want to have oodles more content to play through.
Overall, Cabin Fever is more relatable in this pandemic scorned world than ever before. The game balances light and dark themes excellently, provides a gripping narrative with excellent characters. The audio and visual offerings are better than most other titles within the genre.
Plus, the game has voice acting which is a nice touch. The only negative things we can say is that it is very short and the dark themes may unsettle a few but overall, we rate this game very highly and if you like visual novels, this is a must play.
