When you look at the title of this indie game, you think that this could only be a stuffy and uptight simulation game. Yet when you look behind the curtain and see Wedding Designer for what it really is, you realise that it has a lot more charm and personality than a basic simulator. It’s a title that aims to take a stressful affair, add a fun factor and also leave the players satisfied with a dream wedding scenario at the end of their project.
This game plays rather like building sims and meticulous planning sims like Planet Coaster, Two Point Hospital, Prison Architect and City: Skylines. Yet it also has that hint of silliness found in games like Minecraft or The Sims for example. It’s a unique title but it is one that offers a dream day or will we send away for divorce papers? We find out in our review of Wedding Designer.
Make The Magic Happen
The main thing you’ll be doing within Wedding Designer, is taking a rundown, horrible venue and reinventing it into a dream venue and you’ll have all the tools you’ll need to do so. You can built structures, upcycle run down objects, hire third party services, rent out equipment, fix broken assets, clear debris and do basically anything it takes to make an untenable venue into something that would have a three year waiting list. The title manages to balance the fun and hard work well to offer a rounded experience. You’ll never feel overwhelmed by the task you have at hand. Everything is easy to do, it’s satisfying to do even the most mundane tasks and the satisfaction of a job well done as the wedding takes place is a great feeling.
Planner to the Stars
Then as the game progresses, so does the scale of the tasks you’ll have to undertake. You’ll have to take elegant banquet halls and elevate them to new levels of fancy. The clientele will be harder to please and even the finest of details will have to be in order. It gives the game a sense of progression that we were surprised to see and it was a welcome addition to the title.
The only thing we can be very critical of is the visuals on offer. These are very much the run of the mill, ‘my first unity game’ sort of visuals. They are aesthetically fitting to the type of game but it doesn’t really help the game stand out from the pack which is a shame.
Overall, Wedding Designer is a surprisingly fun and full experience that will appeal to simulation lovers and casual players alike. The game doesn’t take itself too seriously and that is to its benefit. The gameplay is fun and satisfying, there is a sense of progression, the areas you spruce up are varied and offer their own obstacles and challenges. Plus, the scope for creativity here is phenomenal too.
The only let downs were the overall presentation at times both with audio and visually. Plus, the game is a pretty niche concept and for that reason, it will be a hard sell for most gamers.
As a whole though, this game does what it sets out to do and dare we say, it’s an unexpected gem.

- Plenty of scope for creativity and replayability
- Doesn’t take itself too seriously
- Overall presentation was underwhelming
