Most otome games offer a beautiful story with different endings, and several hours of game play that involve restarting to see a new ending. Psychedelic of the Ashen Hawk is one of the most unique otome romances out there, because it changes almost everything that makes a visual novel what it is.
The first difference is that while there is a distinct romance, it’s not as critical to game play as the rest of it. This is not a sappy romance full to the brim with fan service. It’s a true and deep story that will take your breath away. If you loved Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly, get ready for a new masterpiece in the same tone with this newest installment.
Eye popping graphics
The developers of Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk made a real effort to set their novel apart from the rest. Not only do you get dazzling graphics as the story progresses, but the characters can move, turn their backs, and move around the scene. This really makes a big difference in how life like the scene is, and while the movements aren’t fluid, they’re still a big improvement.
Decent Audio
The music for Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk is well done, and most of the character lines are voiced. The actors put a great deal of personality into the voicing, with menacing tones to go with menacing characters, and cheerful tones for more upbeat characters. The audio goes a long way to help bring life to an already vibrant story.
Immense replay value
The game is set up so that you don’t have to replay the entire game from the beginning in order to see all of the possible outcomes. The game is divided up into chapters, but you can go back and replay old chapters to see different scenarios play out. In the end, you can see everything and with just a little bit of replay view all the alternative endings. If it strives to offer so much without replaying it, what makes it so worth while to keep playing? The sheer amount of options it has to unlock. There are 60 unlockable CGs, an enormous cast of characters, and eleven unique endings. Even if you still stay in the same play through, you can keep going for hours and keep finding new content.
Rich, deep storyline
The character you play has amazingly rich development for an otome character. She is a woman born with a single red eye, with red eyes being associated with witches in that world. She disguises herself as a man to avoid suspicion, since the witch people are looking for is said to be female. She also sometimes disguises herself as a female, because she is known as a male.
Through the story line, you follow her as she attempts to solve a mystery involving the two tribes that make up the local town. There are many directions this can go, but the novel itself is deep, a little dark, and certainly worth reading.
This is one of the best otome visual novels out there. It’s very rare that a visual novel has it all, from beautiful graphics and convincing audio to easy playing controls and a deep plot. All of these critical elements come together in Psychedelic of the Ashen Hawk to create a masterpiece that will keep you entertained for hours. If you’re a fan of the otome genre, you won’t want to miss out on this excellent story.
