Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII is a single-player turned-based strategy game developed by Koei Studios, it is the 7th entry in the Romance series and was released in February of 2000. This is a game for hardcore strategy fans and history aficionados who enjoy the depth of decision-based tactical games. Longtime strategy game fans will be right at home with this title, crunching the numbers on their way to victory.
A Time of Parallel and Choice
The game takes place during some incredible moments, based around actual Chinese historical events. You as the player, are charged with the task of uniting all of China under your banner. You will choose from 5 different classes:
- Ronin
- Common officer
- Warlord
- Prefect
- Liege
Also yoy can play any way you would like to, on your quest to unify China. Each class has its own perks and ranks to progress through, giving you multiple play-through opportunities. The conversations you have and your diplomacy will have major consequences, so choose wisely with who you align. Focusing on war strategy alone will not save you as you assume the role of one of the many classes.
Manage Wisely
The name of the game here is resource management. You will be constantly balancing out your troops and their resources. Your success depends on it. This is a strategy game through and through, so if you are looking for an action experience look elsewhere. Unlike Koei’s other excellent Dynasty Warriors, this game rewards diligence and diplomacy. Striking is not as powerful as knowing when to strike. Number crunching is a must when planning your next attack. Can you survive an assault? How long can you feed your troops? Do you have enough equipment to take on the next battle? You have to manage wisely if you are going to survive.
If you are a gamer that enjoys the thrill of the decision, the slow burn, and conquering through complex number-crunching this is the game for you. It has a wonderful backdrop with rich Chinese history to explore and a lot of replay-ability.
This is a game worth exploring and slowly navigating, keeping track of supplies, and deciding who is worth saving and who is worth exploiting. What you choose to do will affect the course of China for centuries to come. What kind of leader will you be?

Game Reviews
Koei June 2002 -- Most either love or despise niche games like Romance, since turn-based city micro-management and military strategy usually aren't everyone's cup of tea. But seeing as how this series is on its seventh chapter, enough diehard fans must be buying into the formula.
Diplomatic, domestic and military decisions are crucial to success. You will have 10 scenarios and 535 characters with whom to interact, and you'll get much greater flexibility with classes such as Ruler, Warlord, Officer,Civil Servant or Ronin. Plus, a new strategy screen lets you plan out your battles better. Sound geeky enough for you? Our thoughts exactly.
