Recently released ALTF4 is a third-person 3D perma-death runner game. Developed by Autosave Game, and PUMPKIN, the game received mostly positive reviews and has been a hot topic on streaming platforms. The game is reminiscent of popular running titles from the mobile gaming industry but has much better design, visuals, and gameplay overall.

Run, Knight, Run!

The premise of the game is extremely simple, you have to run and not stop at any obstacle. You, as a player, take the role of this clumsy knight, and you run through various levels trying to dodge different traps. Oh, you are also armed with an infinite number of chickens, which you can throw and use to interact with the world around you, this mechanic may seem outrageous (and it is), but realistically it is a very important part of the progression.

It’s a Marathon, Not a Sprint

The level design here is definitely well-done, and the graphics clearly received a lot of attention, since you will spend hours being massacred at the same spot. Traps themselves vary between fire, jumps, fish, metal balls, and countless other extremely frustrating ways to die. There is a save mechanic, which demands that you find the “Save” sign attached to a balloon, and use your chickens to pop it before it floats away. Then if you die you’ll come back to the sign once, but if you die again before finding a new sign it is game over.

ALTF4 is an extremely simple game to learn, and very easy to master mechanically. Rag-dolling yourself is honestly the one mechanic you need to practice a bit to use, but everything else should be very intuitive. The true challenge lies in surpassing the insane amount of challenges between you and completion before permanently dying. While there is a mini-save system, the game has a perma-death system, which means once you die you go back to the start.

Conclusion

ALTF4 is appropriately named after the command that shuts down an application because this game is insanely frustrating. It is even hard to recommend to anyone that has a low tolerance for hardships but easily recommended for those who enjoy overtly challenging games.

Even the fun music will start driving you crazy after a couple of hours. These games are meant to challenge you, and teach you, different mechanics, timings, and moments, so it is understandable to get frustrated. However, you need to learn your lessons slowly and apply them patiently to each and every run if you want to succeed.
