Colony Survival is a fantastic first-person strategy game set in a blocky world. It draws many similarities to Minecraft but has a whole host of unique features that differentiates it from the best-selling game of all time. Let’s start by talking about the overarching objective in Colony Survival.
Building a colony from the ground up
Colony Survival is all about forming and managing a colony in a world where monsters roam around at night and threaten everyone’s survival. You’ll need to gather materials and grow crops, all while building up defenses to protect your people from the hordes of undead that return every single night to attack your base. It’s tough, but if you learn to manage things well, you’ll survive and even thrive in the beautiful blocky world of Colony Survival.
Freedom to build anything
Much like Minecraft, you have a lot of freedom to build whatever you want. Whether you want to build a giant castle on top of a hill or a village with buildings scattered across vast plains, the choice is yours. The important thing, though, is to keep everything secure because you don't want zombies breaking into the homes of your colonists and eating them alive.
The colonists and what they do
The colonists are simple humanoid AIs that wonder about performing tasks. You have to assign a job to them first though, and this can be anything from farming to copper mining. They’ll stand there performing the task for as long as you need, helping to build up resources for the colony so that you can continue to expand.
Upgrade your colony over time
As the colony expands, the number of opportunities for upgrading things grows. New materials will start to become available to you that you'll be able to use to make new gear and items for your colony.
You'll start moving up from basic bronze metal to more advanced iron and steel that will give you the ability to make proper weapons for your guards. It's pretty exciting!
Ultimately, I’d highly recommend that you download Colony Survival and try it out, especially if you’re into simulation games that revolve around building up communities from scratch. Alongside the strategic aspect of managing your colony to expand it as much as possible, there's also a lot of room for creativity when it comes to base building. All in all, it's a fun game that you can even play with friends, so be sure to check it out.
- Lots of challenges to overcome and things to do in the game aside from basic building and mining
- Smart path-finding mechanics that allow both monsters and colonists to find their way around the world
- Plenty of freedom to make and build whatever you want, wherever you want
- Multiplayer options so you can co-operate with friends
- Relatively simple graphics that can be unappealing
- Not a huge amount of block variety, so you can't customize your builds as much as you might like
- There’s a lack of help guides, and some may find the controls difficult to grasp
