We've been waiting for so many years for the third part of the Half-Life series that a lot of fans lost faith. There have been too many rumors throughout the years about what could the third part be, or when it would be released, and not a single one of those has been confirmed yet. Now we just got Half-Life Alyx, and after all these years we've got… not the third part of the series.
Now leaving that aside, there's still a lot to say about Half-Life Alyx, but let's explain what this game is really all about. So, let's see what the first Half-Life game in 13 years has to offer. Don't worry, we won't be spoiling the game here.
About the game
As we just said over there, we're not here to spoil the game for you. Ad as such, it should be about enough to say that it takes place after the first game and before the sequel. In the game, we'll explore the adventure of Alyx Vance in the mission to save her father.
Alys will be guided almost at all times by Russell, another member of the resistance via an intercommunicator. In her mission, she will also learn about how the world was before the Seven Hours War.
We have to remember that while the game isn't a spin-off of the series, it's a side story that compliments the main one. And as such, the quality of the story, writing, dialogue, and game itself are all top-notch.
A real Half-Life
You shouldn't take this game lightly just because it isn't a numbered entry, as it is one of the best games in the series. This title does for VR gaming, what the series did for FPS games back in the day.
It's much more than just a VR mini version of a real game, and it does take narration and story development seriously and in a big way. Half-Life Alyx reminds us of when Half-Life 2 appeared and changed gaming forever. More complex narration and bigger story development than what we've used to see in VR games.
Review
In Half-Life Alyx they managed to take care of pretty much all the problems we-ve seen in other VR games. The lack of inventory, the movement, and the accurate controllers. It's much more than just an awkward theme-park game. It really is a complete, full-blown game in VR.
Its biggest strength can be one of its biggest weaknesses though. As you can see, the game still suffers from some of the problems we've seen in every VR game there is. And even though they solved so many, it's still a big important to make it a requirement to have a VR kit to play the game, as they are still very expensive and not as popular.
Graphics and visuals: The game looks great, it's pretty much the best-looking VR game at the moment. And the amazing art direction you'd expect from Half-Life is also here. Excellent in visuals and graphics aspects.
Gameplay: The gameplay is great, is one of the most enjoyable experiences you can ve in the system and definitely a must if you own a VR. The story and development are amazing here.
Sound: The soundtrack is great, but the sound goes way beyond just music. The immersive element it represents for the game is just unique. You'll really feel like you're inside the game and you're living the adventure yourself.
