Pornocrates: VHS

I played the “original” game, and I had no idea that Pornocrates: VHS was a thing until recently. This is once again a first-person game, although this one is certainly more of a first-person shooter. It has a very strange story, and again, like that original game, it gets its inspiration from a classic painting. While this is not a perfect game, there is just something about it, much like the first game, that truly does fascinate me and make me want to keep on playing so I can see the outcome of this crazy 80s set adventure.

She Rules The City

In the original game, Pornocrates is the goddess of sex and pleasure, and it is rumored that she is back once again here. Pornocrates: VHS sees the city being ruled by a famous porn director called Pleasure Lady Pussy and she her fingers in pretty much every single illegal hole that the city has to offer. Now, we play as a private detective and we are on the hunt for a friend and colleague of ours whose disappearance is tied to Pleasure Lady Pussy and we are starting out investigation at our friends office, but this quest will take us to every seedy part of the city.

Following The Clues

Let me say that the story of Pornocrates: VHS is pretty insane, but so was the original Pornocrates, and I thought that game was good. Here, they really lean into the private detective of the 80s and all the hard hitting stuff that the 80s had like rampant prostitution, brutal pimps, crooked city officials and so on. Anything that was in a hard hitting 80s movie is probably going to be something that you come across here in this game. It is certainly and acquired taste that is for sure, but it did click with me and I thought that Pleasure Lady Pussy was an awesome big bad and I had to get to the bottom of who or what she was.

Easy There, Shakey!

I liked the original Pornocrates, but that game had more than a few technical issues. It was a real diamond in the rough kind of situation. Pornocrates: VHS is very similar in that the game has some technical issues, too. This is all played from the first person, and there are first-person shooter sections, but the sensitivity here is crazy, and it does take a while to get to grips with it. You will also have to look for clues, and I thought that the way this tied into the lewd content was very cool and very well done. I had a few crashes and some glitches that were annoying, but never to the point where I said screw it and I felt I was done with the game. There was always something that pulled me back and wanted to try and get a bit further than I had before.

I Am Something Of A Collector Myself

The whole 80s setting and vibe are just awesome and a huge reason why I stuck with Pornocrates: VHS as long as I did. The game is called VHS because we have to view the porno movies on VHS to find clues. The XXX content in the game is nicely animated and pretty damn hot too. The characters do have a more video game look than a realistic look to them, but I still liked it. The sex scenes are hot, and I felt that they were given to me at a very good rate. Now, the downside with the presentation is the sound; there are so many strange sound effects in this game, many of which feel out of place or that they are just random. Also, there is voice in the game, but it sounds like my old Speak and Spell from the 80s! Although the game is set in the 80s, so you could argue that is part of the charm here.

Pros:

• The 80s setting is cool
• I loved Pleasure Lady Pussy as the villain
• Using the VHS tapes for the plot and the XXX content was cool
• I found the mystery story told here engrossing

Cons:

• The gameplay is so twitchy and hard to get to grips with
• Like the first game, it has a lot of technical issues, including many crashes
