I have to be honest and say that Rise to the Top is not what I thought it was going to be. What drew me to this game was the promise of a free roam point and click style lewd adventure where you play as a DJ and that sounded really cool. To be fair, as I write this the game is not yet complete and the developer is still hard at work and even in the time I spent with it, the game got a pretty decent update. However, right now it feels more like a demo, but I do think there are some pretty cool ideas here.

Hanging Out On The Jersey Shore

The main character is a bit of a douchebag in Rise to the Top, but I get the impression that is kind of the point of what is going on here. He wants to be a superstar DJ and have all of the fame, women, money that comes with that. However, there are other pitfalls like drugs, people wanting you to fail, and so on. I got the impression that the MC could have quite easily been a guy on Jersey Shore!

The Illusion Of Choice

I thought that as this was classed as a free roam style of game that Rise to the Top was going to have a ton of choices for me to make. While there are plenty of choices that you will have to make during gameplay, I got the impression that the whole free roam aspect of the game was a bit of an illusion as it felt rather linear to me. Granted the game is not yet complete, so perhaps branching paths have not been added yet, but I can see why many other people felt less than impressed with the supposed free roam that the game had to offer. The game is pretty decent at trying to push you in the right direction of where you have to go next and that is something I do appreciate.

Look At The Size Of Those!

Hey, I love big boobs and that is one thing that Rise to the Top has in spades. This is a great looking game and if there is one area of the game where I feel they have got it pretty much perfect even from the early stages it is the character renders. As I write this there are not many sex scenes (I think I came across one lewd scene) however, it is showing a great deal of promise and as more are added, I think this could be what brings me back to play the next updated version of the game.

Hmm, I feel that it is perhaps a tad harsh to review Rise to the Top in its current state, but the developer does make it seem like there is more content here than there actually is so I can see why some people were not happy with how little there was to do in the game. Rather than get mad, I am looking at this like a demo or a solid proof of concept and think that if they can deliver on what they want to do, this is going to be a pretty damn fun lewd game.

Pros:

It is kind of funny how the MC is a douche chick magnet
I like the idea of being a DJ
The game is not too cryptic in what it wants you to do next
Even in this rather early stage of development, the character renders are fantastic

Cons:

The game feels way too linear for something with “free roam” attached to it
There is not much content here at the moment, but the future does look promising
