Sam & Max Save The World Remastered

With the exception of a few narrative-focused adventure games from a certain developer, the genre of the point-and-click adventure game has largely died out. The games from the early days of PC gaming that featured wacky characters, irreverent humor, and basically impossible puzzles have been replaced by annualized sports games, action-adventure games, and all the major FPS franchises. Fans who grew up with those classic point-and-click games have grown up, but have not forgotten all the fun they had on those adventures. Particularly the fans of the Sam & Max games who work at Skunkape Games. That crew of developers managed to get the rights to the franchise, and remake the first part of the Sam & Max saga with Sam & Max Save the World. If you’re one of those fans from the old days, or even just being exposed to the series for the first time, in search of something new and fresh, here is everything you need to know about Sam & Max Save the World Remastered.

The Sam & Max You Remember!

Sam & Max Save the World Remastered presents players with classic point-and-click gameplay with the same fantastic puzzles and story that was present in the game's original release in 2007. You play as the titular duo of Sam & Max, a tall canine detective and his stout bunny companion as they explore environments and speak to a diverse cast of absurd characters. These conversations often feature dialogue choices for your characters, which will extract more information, reveal a joke, or allow you to understand the character you're speaking to just a little better.

Puzzle solutions will often be gleaned from these conversations or by presenting characters with specific objects you pick up throughout the game. As in the original, however, the answers are not immediately clear, so there is quite a bit of trial and error involved with the puzzles, as well as backtracking through previously explored locations for clues. To aid newer players who aren’t as used to the trappings of a classic point-and-click game, the remastered version of this title features a hint button, which highlights all of the interactable people and objects in any given room. This is a great way of helping a player along without just giving them the solution to a puzzle, allowing them to grow and get used to the game through play.

Looking Better Than Ever!

The focus of this remaster is in the visual department, and the development team certainly did their job. The game now features a widescreen, 16:9 aspect ratio, a vast improvement from the 4:3 aspect ratio of the original game. Also included is a fantastic dynamic lighting system that completely changes the tone of any given area, brand new character models that are highly detailed and smooth, and improved lip-syncing to immerse you in the game more.

All of these improvements make Sam & Max Save the World Remastered a better, more impressive experience, without compromising the artistic vision and spirit of the original release.
