There's indeed a game for every gamer out there, no matter how weird or specific their tastes might be. There are a lot of anime and manga fans that also fall in the gamer category, and there are thousands of games that appeal to them too. So, a game like Yandere School could not be missing right? Developed by Tea & Cake Games, what started off as just a mobile form of the popular Yandere Simulator, ended up making its way into Steam. So let's talk about this one here
About the game
In this game, you play the role of Akari Furutaka, a simple high school girl who's in love with her senpai Makio Sono. However, Akari is a complete yandere, a pretty insane and jealous girl that will eliminate anyone who dares to stand between her and her loved one.
But Makio senpai is kind of popular, so there are many possible rivals for Akari. This time it's not limited to just girls who want to ask him out, but pretty much anyone who's with him. From school members to even the sports teams who don't want Makio getting distracted from sports by some girl. As Akari Furutaka, your mission is to kill any rival and hide their bodies without anyone seeing you.
Another Yandere Simulator?
Well, yes and no. It's not like the whole yandere thing started with yandere simulator, but the game is pretty much the same thing. In Yandere Simulator, however, you only have to eliminate girls, Akari goes beyond that and eliminates anyone. Yandere School copies pretty much everything from Yandere Simulator though.
Even though there are some tweaks here and there, and the story is not really similar to that of Yandere Simulator, the game itself is too similar for its own good. And the problem with that is, these changes and being released as a "full game" make it good enough to compete.
It's clear even at first sight that this game is poorly developed. The monotone gameplay and lack of originality only match the length of the game, which is minimal. Probably it would have been better off as just a smartphone game, and not getting a Steam release. But at least this game did launch, unlike Yandere Simulator which has been in development for so many years now.
The game could have potential, but it looks and plays as if it's still in development. Who knows, maybe with a little more work put into it it could be a nice title.
Graphics and Visuals: The visual aspect of this game is not pleasing at all. Poorly drawn anime designs, horrible character models, messy world design, even in a still frame without animation it looks bad. Including the drawn scenes of the story, it's a mess visually.
Gameplay: The gameplay is ok at best, a monotone story that revolves in doing the same thing over and over until you finish the game. Good thing the story is pretty short, or it would be really hard to see the ending. The nightmare sequences are a nice touch, even though they are probably not enough.
Sound: Not much to mention here, it has a soundtrack and sound effects, but we're better off not mentioning the voice acting.
