Blue Guardian Margaret

BLUE GUARDIAN Margaret is an action-paced Metroidvania style action shooter that I could not stop playing once I started. The game is brought to us by people who are no stranger to this genre with titles such as Sacrifice Girl and Holdover. However, I would say that they have learned a great deal from their previous work and used it to great effect here with this game.

Lazy, But Heroic

I went into this not expecting a great deal from the story, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the tale that BLUE GUARDIAN Margaret was weaving. Our hero is Margaret and she is the protector of Tower of the Water Deity. She does this by being a badass with her two magical pistols.

The thing is, Margaret has been slacking off work and as a result, the tower has become infested with monsters and they have polluted the water. The gods have demanded that she get back to work and rid the tower of the monsters and the pollution. It may not sound like much, but the story is actually very well told and I enjoyed it a great deal.

Smooth Criminal

The presentation of BLUE GUARDIAN Margaret is very well done. It may at first glance look like your typical Metroidvania style of game, however, there are a ton of little fine details to the characters and the different locations that you go to as well. I liked the way Margaret looked and she would get naked as you played the game and as you would expect that is pretty awesome. While I would class this as a “lewd” game, it is much more toned down than you would think and there is no actual sex in this game.

The soundtrack is great, the game has a water theme and the music reflects this very well and has a more calming “water” type sound that I found very appealing. The downside is the voices. Margaret does grunts and so on as you would expect, but they are way too loud and abrasive.

Shooting And Swimming

If you have played a Metroidvania style of game before, you are already going to know what is in store for you here with BLUE GUARDIAN Margaret. You need to traverse the tower, finding monsters and killing them all the while solving puzzles and dealing with soldiers who are there to “help” it is not the most in-depth, however, it manages to offer plenty of action and also a bit of exploration and puzzle-solving too.

The shooting mechanics with her magic pistols are very solid. Most of the games of this style I end up playing tend to focus more on melee attacks so this was a bit of a change of pace and I really enjoyed it.

Pros:

• Margaret is a very interesting character
• I liked the two pistol mechanic that the game offered
• It looks fantastic
• The music could not be any more fitting to the visuals
• You will have a lot of fun playing through this

Cons:

• It may not be XXX enough for some people
• Her grunts and other noises are way too loud
