Guilty Hell: White Goddess and the City of Zombies

How awesome is the title Guilty Hell: White Goddess and the City of Zombies? It sounds like something from a heavy metal album and being the rocker I am I got a huge kick out of this. What we have here is a lewd 2D action game that has a lot of good things going for it. This came out several years ago, but for whatever reason, it slipped my radar until now. I will say that this game has a pretty steep learning curve and it is very difficult. Plus, this does not hold your hand at all, really making you have to learn the game for yourself. If you can get past the first 20 or so minutes as you get to grips with it, you will find this to be a solid lewd action game.

Not The Vivi You Were Expecting

I actually really liked the story that Guilty Hell: White Goddess and the City of Zombies was telling. There is an evil sorcerer called Vivi and no, it is not the awesome Vivi from Final Fantasy IX, they would never do something like this. Anyway, in the peaceful fairy forest where the magical fairies live. Vivi has raised an army of zombies and these gross naked zombies are ripping the fairies to pieces in order to get their magical essence. All seems lost, but just like Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, there is hope!

Rise My Maiden

The hope in Guilty Hell: White Goddess and the City of Zombies comes because the fairy chief has a great idea. Before all is lost the fairy chief performs an ancient ritual and this ritual will bring back Airi a goddess who looked over the land and she now stands as the only hope of defeating Vivi and making sure the fairy people are safe. Hey, this is awesome fantasy stuff and I have to say that I was not expecting a story like this with the heavy metal title that the game has. Still, I found the writing to be interesting and while this is a lewd game at the end of the day, they do make the lewd stuff make sense in the story.

Fighting Them Back

I would not go as far as to say that Guilty Hell: White Goddess and the City of Zombies is a lewd Metroidvania game, it feels more like a traditional 2D action game. You do have some exploration and platforming, but this is mostly about getting through the stages and killing the many different types of zombies that Vivi is throwing your way. It is all very well done and I was impressed with how well the game controlled. However, as I said in the intro, this game has a steep learning curve and there are some enemies that seem to have a very unfair advantage as far as their hit boxes go. You have a few different attacks and moves that you can do, but the game does not do a good job of explaining these so you will have to play around and figure it all out for yourself.

Smiling In The Face Of Death

Even though Guilty Hell: White Goddess and the City of Zombies is a few years old by the time I came around to playing it, I still feel that it has some very nice visuals. Airi is a great looking protagonist, but the lewd content here is gross fat dudes and creepy looking monsters having sex with her. This is not my thing, but I can at least appreciate how well done it is. The world created here is cool and I liked the fantasy setting and felt that the artists did a good job of filling each area with details and making them feel unique. You could take the lewd content out of this game and I would still very much like the way that it looks.

Pros:

• I liked Airi as the main character, she is hot and badass
• Vivi is a cool villain, actually feels like a real threat
• I enjoyed the fantasy story that the game told
• The game has more depth to the gameplay than you would expect

Cons:

• Sometimes, it does feel a tad unfairly difficult in places
• The game could do with a better tutorial as it does not explain much
