If someone were to mention a 'sexy action roguelike' to you, what would you think? A super polished, fluid, genre-defining game? A narrative filled with beautiful, alluring characters? ISEKAI FRONTLINE is neither, despite having a compelling tagline as such. It's a game where sex with your colleagues matters more than achieving combat victories against your foes.
Now I may sound instantly critical of games with adult themes. That's not because of the offensive content but because these titles tend to be cheaply made and uninspired. I'm assuming that ISEKAI FRONTLINE won't be different from those games with the minimum of intended genre mechanics. We'll get some rushed-out lewd imagery. But I'm always open to being pleasantly surprised!
Sex in the Frontline
So let's jump right into the premise of ISEKAI FRONTLINE. It's an action roguelike where the player is the only man left in the world, tasked with fighting off hordes of zombies with your female companions. And since you're the only guy left on the planet, the game makes it your job to 'satisfy' your colleagues.
There's a lot of pressure to manage your thriving sex life by eliminating zombie hordes. So how do you do it? You'll traverse a cheaply laden map battling with your chosen companions, each with unique combat and lovemaking abilities. Victory means you'll end up doing wild and raunchy things in the bedroom. Defeat means you'll lose your allies forever.
ISEKAI FRONTLINE is pretty straightforward, adhering to that adult game notion of basic mechanics with a heavy sex focus. I'll give it that combat and narrative are more immersive than you'd find in most games of this caliber. But it's not going to be a genre-bending classic by any means. The game is far too simple and downright obnoxious in some places.
The one aspect I'd respect about the game is that the interface is surprisingly clean and well-designed. It makes navigating between maps, narrative, characters, and inventory easy and seamlessly combines each aspect of the title. However, the pure ridiculousness and content don't provide an immersive game.
Only If You're the Last Man on Earth
So what's the consensus on ISEKAI FRONTLINE? Compared to my usual ramblings against adult content games, it's surprisingly playable. That doesn't mean the theme is any less ridiculous, but there has been more effort into the design than you'd usually find.
Does it match the quality of lewd games like Seed of the Dead: Sweet Home? Absolutely not. However, it's tolerable for players who aren't particularly enthused by the adult game culture. Just be aware that it will be a more memorable, not itch-scratching experience. But it will satisfy any curiosities you have about this gaming category without frightening you.
