Martial arts and gaming have went hand in hand ever since the 1990s. Fighting games would allow players to enjoy a wealth of incredible attacks which could be used to beat your foe. Then in later years, RPGs, action games, platformers, story driven games and side scrolling, Metroidvania style games would pop up with martial arts being key to these game’s success. Well, the latter has continued to offer new and interesting martial art avenues to go down, with games such as Kung Fu Girl.
This game plays like mainstream titles like Castlevania, Metroid and Gestalt but also has its roots in the Eroge genre, mimicking games such as Ghost Hunter Vena, Lost Case and Crisis Point Extinction. This game aims to combine fighting and fun in the bedroom. However, does this game create the perfect mix? We find out in our review of Kung Fu Girl.
Ready, Fight!
Ok, so let’s begin with the art style here. The game is for all intents and purposes, a humble flash game. The art style is mostly hand drawn models, block colours and primitive animations. So it’s very difficult to heap praise on the game in this area. The only positive is that the game does offer quite a lot of character customisation for the player which is a plus. However, this game fails to live up the standard of similar games in the genre.
However, when it comes to gameplay, we have to say that the game really does succeed. The player will play through a side scrolling fighter much like Streets of Rage. However, you’ll use the power of masturbation to quell the threat that lurks to the right of the screen. The animations while primitive are unique and interesting. Plus, there are plenty of upgrades to explore and different enemies to fight. So overall, gameplay is a success.
Then lastly, we have the story of this game which is bare bones to say the least. The sexual content is fun, the core concept is interesting but its just not fleshed out enough to warrant praise. It’s much like the games like Streets of Rage. No one plays them for the narrative, it’s all about the arcade gameplay and while this game’s gameplay is nowhere near as refined, it still rings true here.
The Verdict
Overall, this game has superb gameplay which makes this one worth playing all on its own. Plus, the character customisation, the animations and the sexual content also make this game a draw for eroge fans.
However, artistically and narratively this game falls short and fails to deliver to the same scale as other games within the genre. So while this game is still worth trying out. We would also shop around and try out others in the field as well, because chances are you will enjoy those more.
Pros:
- Great concept
- Sexual content is presented in a unique way
- Gameplay is excellent
Cons:
- This game is narratively dull
- Artistically, this game is a rough around the edges flash game
