For me, Rage 2 is one of the best games of 2019. I thought that the first Rage had some great ideas and while it was a fun game. There was just something missing from making it a must-play kind of game. What we have here though is most certainly the real deal when it comes to something special.

Badass Rescue Rangers

Rage 2 does actually have a story and lore behind what you are doing and I found it pretty interesting. While it does follow on from the first game you do not need to have played that to get into this. The basics of the story are that you are playing as what is called a Ranger. Think of yourself as a super cop with special abilities. There is this group of mutants called The Authority and they see themselves as the rulers of the world and the next leap in human evolution. You need to put a stop to them before it is too late.

What To Do, What To Do

There is a ton for you to do in Rage 2. So much that it can be almost overwhelming to look at your map and see a million different icons. While the story will probably take you anywhere between 10 – 15 hours depending on how you play. I would say that you could easily put around 100 hours into this game as there is so much side content and things for you to discover.

Always Moving Forward

One thing that really got me hooked on Rage 2 was the progression system. No matter what you do in the game, you feel like you are moving forward to getting something. You have a pretty straightforward skill tree. Not straightforward in terms of the awesome things it lets you do, but straightforward in how easy it is to understand. You get more money; you get weapons and you level up. It is like everything you do in the game rewards you in some way. The way the game handles weapons I felt was quite clever. Instead of being able to just grab whatever weapons you want. Rage 2’s world has it so that a Ranger can only use specific weapons and these must be sought out.

Fun To Play

Above all else, this is a game that is a lot of fun to play. Like the first game, there are vehicle sections, but these are very well done and a lot of fun. For me, it is the big fights you get into that make this such a great first-person shooter. The game is very cleverly designed and when you enter an area that is going to have a lot of combat, it is always designed well and this means combat is a ton of fun.

Rage 2 is an amazing game and one that will certainly make my own personal top 10 games of 2019 list. It has a cool story, the game looks like a million bucks and best of all it is one of the most fun first-person shooters to be released since the reboot of Doom a few years back. If you like shooters, then you owe it to yourself to play this.
