What we have here with Robolife-Days with Aino is a fun visual novel and management style of game that I had a great deal of fun with. I will tell you right off the bat that this is not going to change the world of lewd visual novels. However, this is one of those rare games that does pretty much everything right. It has a fantastic sense of humor and it is the kind of game that once you beat it, you feel like you spent your time very wisely playing it.
Who Am I?
The way the story is told and unfolds is best described as a romantic comedy! In Robolife-Days with Aino, we play as a student at the Ahroy Academy which is all about AI. In order to graduate you must train an AI in order to blend into society. You find an android called Aino at the local dump and decide this is the robot you are going to do your AI work on.
Well, it turns out Aino is not like every other android! She tries to kill you, but she malfunctions and you realize that there is more to her than most other androids so you decide to help her recall her past and the two of you strike up a friendship. It is very fun stuff and has a really good sense of humor.
Keeping It Simple And Focused
What I think I liked best about Robolife-Days with Aino was actually the gameplay loop. The visual novel aspect of the game is done very, very well. There are not a million pointless choices that feel like they do not matter. Instead, when you get to make a choice, you actually feel like it makes a difference. There are three endings that you can work towards and this may seem like a small amount, but it keeps things much more focused and as a result, the story is all the better for it.
Punching The Clock
Time management is also part of the gameplay in Robolife-Days with Aino. You only have a select amount of time to get resources, move the story forward and so on and it is done very well. Far too many lewd games get too cryptic for their own good, but with this one, it is always quite obvious what you have to do and there is not this horrible grind! The dressing up aspect of the game is interesting in that as she is an android, skills are rewarded depending on what you have her wear. There is a lot of choices here, but it never gets overwhelming.
Anime By Nameā¦
The art in the game is great and very well done. It has a kind of 90s anime style to it all and that is something I do find very appealing. There is plenty of animation here too with characters moving around slightly during cut scenes which makes them feel more real. There are some fantastic XXX CGs in the game too and there is a viewer as well so you can check them out once you have unlocked them.
I had a great time with Robolife-Days with Aino. I really wish that more lewd games would take this approach! Rather than trying to be clever and having a ton of extra content and steps that you have to do, this keeps things relatively simple and it is a much better game as a result of it.
Pros:
- I thought the story had a great deal of charm to it
- The visual novel aspect of the game is done very well
- I liked how it was not cryptic and easy to figure out
- It has some fantastic XXX scenes!
Cons:
- An English VO track would have been the icing on the cake
- One of the endings is super weird and comes out of nowhere
