The Guy Game

Before moving forward with this review, I need to present you, the readers, with three simple questions to help you determine if you should continue reading:

1. Are you male between the ages of 18 and 24?
2. Is Howard Stern your idol?
3. Do you consider quality television to be reruns of MTV's Spring Break in Cancun?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, The Guy Game may be just what you are looking for. Tapping in to college age males and adolescent immature love of boobs, publisher Gathering and developer Top Heavy Studios are hope to score big combining drinking, trivia and naked women with videogames. Does it work? It all depends on your answer to the three questions.

First off, going in to this review, I had no idea what type of game The Guy Game was. We have seen adventure games like Leisure Suit Larry and biking games like BMX XXX that take the sex angle but The Guy Game opts for a more traditional trivia game wrapped around actual video shot on location at spring break. The core of the game is comprised of text screen trivia giving the user the opportunity to answer as quickly as possible coupled with high quality video of 'spring break hotties'? asked the same question. The quicker you answer the trivia question, the more money you win. The object is to walk away with the most cash at the end of the game. Oh yeah, did I mention if the girl gets the question incorrect, she has to flash her boobs to the crowd?

In addition to the above trivia contest, the player gains bonus points by guessing if the girl (or girls) answered the same trivia question correctly. If you guess correctly, you earn bonus points. These bonus points fill the 'flash-o-meter'?. What is the flash meter you ask? Well, as I mentioned above, if a girl answers a question incorrectly, she is required by law to flash the crowd. What I did not mention was that until you fill your 'flash-o-meter'?, your view of the goods is blocked. Obviously there is no better motivation to do well at anything in life than the opportunity to see boobs. To top it off, if you manage to fill the meter, you unlock the hottie challenge, which is a collection of various competitions where the girls battle it out jump roping, hula hooping, sack racing and other assorted challenges all topless.

This is where the game falters a bit. While I think it was a good idea to make you work a bit before you get the full peep show, the way you unlock the unobscured view ends up more blind luck than skill. There is a 50/50 chance that the drunk chick will know that a Granny Smith is an apple but your flash meter depends on guessing correctly. In addition, I intentionally placed the word 'hotties? in quotes because I do not vouch for their definition of hotties. While some of the girls are decent, others are downright unattractive. While it does not detract from the game, it does detract from the reward.

There are also a number of mini games which are variations of skee-ball and are mildly entertaining. In addition, there is a version of a drinking game called Presidents and Aholes which is a mildly amusing party game. Overall though, I can't say the game is a recommended buy but if you answered yes to the questions at the beginning, you should be amused. If the game was $20, it would almost be a no brainer purchase for any college guy but at $40, I would say rent it for the weekend get it out of your system then head back to your Girls Gone Wild DVD.

Today we are checking out the lewd and crude quiz show game, The Guy Game! Many people will tell you that this game is straight up trash and while I will admit the content is rather trashy and cringy, it is not a horrible quiz game and I have actually played way worse. It does have some boobs, but the most interesting thing about this game is the controversy and the fact that this can be one of the rarest games for its console generation!

Controversy Creates Cash!

Let us start by talking about why The Guy Game is such a “holy grail” for some collectors out there. You see, this game features a lot of live action footage that was shot over spring break in the early 00s. Girls getting wild, wearing bikinis, and getting topless. Sounds like fun right? Well, it turns out one of the chicks that got topless was only 17 making the game illegal to be sold in many places, leading to a huge recall, but some versions of that original game made it out and they are incredibly rare! I should probably add that I am not saying people want this game because they want to see a 17 year olds boobs, but more because it is such a rare and interesting piece for their collections.

Quizzing Around

What we basically have here with The Guy Game is a crude trivia game. The idea is to build up the Flash-O-Meter so that the girls will show their boobs. The questions are basically all general knowledge and you have to try and guess if these girls will get the questions right or not. They do try and change things up with different rounds, rules, and even a couple of mini-games so I do give them credit for that. It just is a really cringy and dated kind of presentation, the kind of thing that would have been on Spike TV back in the day!

More Than Just A One And Done

The problem with a lot of quiz games is that the questions repeat very quickly. Now, The Guy Game does not have a pool of unlimited questions so they will eventually repeat, but there are like 1,000 questions in this game so you can play it quite a few times before you start seeing the same questions over and over again. With a few buddies, this can be a fun time, especially if you have a few bears! It is not something that will blow you away, but I have legit played worse quiz games over the years than this one.

The Host With The Most

The dude who is the MC, host, or whatever you want to call him in The Guy Game is about as over the top as you would expect. The overall presentation is not bad at all, at the time this was made the video footage to be fair was about as clear as you could get, and even today it is not terrible. They make sure that when a question is up on the screen it is easy to read and in all, it looks about as good as they possibly could have done. The audio quality is also pretty solid, but the constant “woos” and yells from the spring breakers can get annoying after a while.

Pros:

• There is a lot of variety in the questions
• I got a kick out of the whole cringy nature of things
• There are some laughs to be had here, especially when playing with friends
• The video and sound quality have actually aged pretty well

Cons:

• The game is like a trashy TV show from like 2000
• It loses most of its appeal in the single player

The most interesting thing about The Guy Game is not the boobs from the spring break girls, but the lawsuit that followed this game for one of the girls only being 17! It has made early versions of the game very sought after, not because of the underage girl, but because they are incredibly rare! This is a sleazy, but funny quiz style game and it is “trash” however, it is also going to give you a few laughs.

Game Of Rounds

The best way to describe The Guy Game is that it is a trivia game, a trivia game where the goal is to get rid of the censor so that you can see the boobs of these spring break hotties. The game is crude, but it does not take itself too seriously and at the end of the day are boobs really that bad?

The game is split into rounds. The first one will have you just trying to answer questions, you then get to see the girls get asked the same question and you have to guess if they get it right or wrong. There is a weird basketball kind of round and another where you need to figure out what wrong answer the girl said. While it is a trivia game, at least they tried to spice it up with some variety.

The Flash-O-Meter!

The reason that you are taking part in the quiz that The Guy Game is offering you is to see these ladies in all their glory. There is a Flash-O-Meter and the more it fills up, the more the censorship will start to lift. It takes forever to get it all the way up, but the game actually does have some charm to it, well charm in a sleazy way if you know what I am saying.

FMV Baby

As far as the presentation of the game goes, it is mostly two styles. The questions tend to be on a basic blue screen and that is fine, it is easy to read and understand what you have to do. The other portion of the game is all of the FMV. This is actually quite high-quality and I have no complaints about it at all. By today's HD and 4K standard, the footage is not exactly the sharpest, but back then it was decent enough. There is also a lot of footage too so if you play through this a couple of times, you will not see the same footage over and over again.

Pros:

• There are a ton of questions
• The FMV is a decent quality
• It is probably going to make you laugh
• Boobs!

Cons:

• The game is not exactly great
• I can see why some people would be offended by this
