The Tearoom

The Tearoom is a game that is… I am having a really hard time trying to think what is the best way to go about this review. The Tearoom is a game brought to us by game designer, Robert Yang. If that name sounds familiar, he has made the headlines in the Twitch world for his games getting banned due to their sexual content. This game is kind of like a commentary on that as well as being a gay man in the 1960s. If this game interests you, I highly recommend that you read some of the backstory about it as it is very interesting stuff.

Sucking Shotguns

The game is set in a bathroom in the 1960s. Police would try and catch gay men having “relations” in bathrooms and use it as an excuse to lock them up for years. It must have been horrible to hide who you were back then and I think that is what The Tearoom is going for.

You want to meet dudes so that you can suck off their gun. I do not mean that as a funny play on words. This game has no male genitalia, instead, it is all guns! It is an interesting take on things and his reasons for doing this are that Twitch will ban a man’s penis, but a gun, a gun is fine.

It Is A Bathroom!

The game is set in a rather dark and dirty bathroom and it has a really dark and seedy look about the whole thing. It is played in the first-person and it captures the look I am guessing he was going for very well. I have not played a game that has this realistic a stream of urine I can tell you that much.

There really is not a whole lot to say about the visuals of The Tearoom as they capture what they are trying to very well. It is just what they are trying to capture is not exactly easy on the eyes now is it?

Shooting Blanks

The idea of the game is to collect as many guns as you can. You are standing at the stall and then another dude will come into use the urinal. You have to make eyes at him and decide if he wants you to lick his gun. If things go well, you get to lick his gun and if you lick his gun well enough, he will shoot his blanks. Again, this is not some clever play on words, you are literally licking his gun!

The twist is that you have to pay attention to the guys as if they are a cop and you try to lick their gun it is game over. You can usually tell if they are a cop by the way that they act. The more you play, the more you will get to realize who is a cop and who is not.

Pros:

• The story behind the game is very interesting
• This bathroom looks pretty realistic
• You can collect “guns”
• Sucking guns!
• It is the kind of game that is very interesting to talk about

Cons:

• There is not much to the game
• Getting caught by those homophobic pigs sucks man!

I can say with some real certainty that I have never experienced a lewd game like The Tearoom before. This is more than a game, it is a bit of social commentary that I think makes the story behind the game and why it exists far more interesting than the actual game itself. I am not saying that the game is bad, but I just found the whole backstory to this thing so incredibly interesting that it made me want to read and learn as much about it as I could.

No Dicks, Only Guns!

I want to start by talking about the social commentary of The Tearoom and the premise or story if you will. The game is brought to us by game designer, Robert Yang who is a prominent XXX game maker, many of his games not being allowed on Twitch because of how sexual they are. His point is that a gun is fun, Twitch will let you show guns and violence, but a penis is where they draw the line. It is kind of weird that you can have a game with extreme violence and brutality, but no sex, I guess that is the point he was trying to make.

A Sign Of The Times

Another way that The Tearoom is a bit of social commentary is with its setting. The game takes place in the 1960s in a public bathroom and we play the role of a gay man. Back then, a public bathroom was a place where some gay men would meet to hook up and there would be cops that would try and bust them and imprison them for many years which is just crazy to think about. While things are far from perfect today for the LGBTQ community, they are at least better than they were back then.

Dark And Dirty

I will say that The Tearoom has a rather realistic and gross looking public bathroom, but that is by design. The game is played from the first person point of view and even though we would have to class this as a lewd XXX game, there is no male nudity in this game at all. Instead of male genitalia, we have guns, that is right, the whole “this is my rifle, this is my gun” thing has never been more relevant than it is here. The guns are very realistic looking (as is the urine!) and I guess that is the guy's point, you can have a photo realistic gun, but a penis is a bit no, no!

Shooting Blanks

Now, how do I eloquently describe the gameplay of The Tearoom? What we have here is a first-person gun licking simulator. That is right, men will come into the bathroom and you will have to make eyes at them and try to decide if they are there to have fun or if they are a cop. If they are down to fool around, you have to lick their gun, no clever metaphor there, you actually lick their gun until they shoot their blanks and then you move on to the next one. If you make a mistake and try to lick a cop’s gun, it is game over! There is not much to the gameplay, but there is a bit of tension thanks to the fear of being caught by a cop!

Pros:

• I was fascinated by the back story of this game
• The way you collect guns is rather interesting
• To be fair, the bathroom may be gross, but the game does look good
• It is one of the more interesting lewd games that is for sure

Cons:

• It does make you question the way we view sex and violence and it may make you question your own values!
• It is a game that is more interesting to talk about than play if I am being honest
