In 2019, Urban Games released a sequel to one of their most popular games, and they released Transport Fever 2. A game that invites the player to create the perfect transport network using all kinds of different vehicles. Many games came before with this exact same idea in mind, but that's where Transport Fever 2 introduces an interesting twist to the entire game idea.
Some of the games that follow this same concept are basic staples of the genre and remain the most popular reference points for the genre. So, what's up with Transport Fever 2, does it have what it takes to dethrone the iconic titles of this genre?. Well, let's talk about the game and see what their original twist is.
About the game
As we mentioned before, this game is all about creating and controlling the perfect transportation network. There are many different cities, industrial zones, and resource recollection points, all important to consider when building our ideal network and delivering the products where required.
Depending on the product required, we'll have to first pick up the resources, get them to the industrial zones, and then set up the delivery network. The logistics and planning are really important in the game to keep the budget and make sure to earn a profit. Creating a perfect transportation network will give you more funds to expand and enhance the lines and make the process more efficient. Not to mention it will also help the cities grow.
Planification is key in this game, but you'll also need a lot of patience. There are a lot of new vehicles that will make transportation easier, considering that you can now use trains, ships, airplanes, and more. Also, the game takes us to three different periods throughout the campaign, so you can get a brief version of the evolution of transportation networks.
How does it compare?
When you think of transportation simulation games you might think about Transport Tycoon, and even though it is much older than this game, it is arguably more fun. And even simpler games like Train Valley have a more interesting gameplay experience by adding different and more challenging features.
There's a point in Transport Fever 2 when, after you set everything up, you just have to sit and watch how it all unfolds, and this can take a while. The fast-forward mode isn't of much help, and the entire experience becomes tedious.
Review: 6/10
Transport Fever 2 is a nice upgrade from the first title, and while it improves the bad stuff from the original, they are still present. The game is pretty boring after you configure everything for each mission. There’s little interaction and the puzzles are made too simple with the addition of so many vehicle options.
However, the original idea of three time periods makes it pretty interesting, and even though the different vehicles make the game easier, it is fun to play around and experiment with all the possibilities.
Pros:
- Different cities and environments to check out
- You can create and share your own maps
- Possibilities for mods
Cons:
- Shallow and repetitive
- Not much new to see
- Pacing issues
