Trepang2

Developed by a very small team of four persons at Trepang Studios, Trepang2 is an attempt to recreate the experience of an abandoned game and franchise back into action. It all started when they built the very first prototype of the game back in 2017.

There's a demo and a first build available on Steam, and while it's fairly short, it gives us a nice glance at how the full game will be once released. An incredible, fast-paced, and gory FPS full of action, blood, bullets, and violence. This goes hand to hand with the element of thriller to represent more of the influences behind this game.

About the game

Trepang2 is heavily inspired, even to the point of feeling like it's recreating, by FEAR. and while it's not the first game to try and do this, it is one of the most promising. At the moment not much is known about the story or the plot that will be behind Trepang2. And since it is developed by a small team of 4 people, the development is still in its early stages.

The available demo itself only shows us two proof-of-concept game modes and while they are not even fully-fledged, we do get to see the spirit and energy the game will be loaded with. Self-described as a mix of F.E.A.R., Splinter Cell, John Wick, Hardcore Henry, and The Matrix: Path of Neo, you can already start to imagine how this game is.

You'll have to sharpen your reflexes, dodge bullets coming from every direction, sneak in the shadows, and use gun-fu skills to finish off all your enemies. And with the fully-fledged gore system, you can destroy your enemies into pieces.

The story

So far the story is pretty simple: You’re being held captive by an evil corporation, now you’ll have to fight your way out of this situation. There’s not much explained as to the reasons behind all of this. All they tell you is that these people apparently took everything for you, and now you’ll get your revenge.

It's an interesting twist compared to the original inspiration of F.E.A.R,, as they gave it a complete spin. Whereas in F.E.A.R.: Extraction Point The player takes the role of the action hero that's trapped in a horror situation, where things are completely different. Basically, Trepang2 has the player become a monstrous creature that lurks in the shadows and destroys people. In Trepang2, you become the nightmare, or as they say in John Wick, Baba Yaga.

Trepang2 is, without a doubt, a promising title. It has a lot of action, tons of violence, blood and gore, bullets, and even some strategic elements. There’s a lot of mystery surrounding everything in this world and we can’t wait to uncover it. However, even with how small the team is, they are working slowly, and this can be really bad.
