Behind The Dune

I am surprised that it has taken me this long to discover Behind The Dune as I love lewd parody games, but for some reason, this one evaded me for quite a few years. I guess an advantage of that is the fact that I was able to come into this, and the game is fully complete, so I do not have to worry about when or if the next update is coming. I will say that I think in order to get the best out of this, you do need to be familiar with the franchise. However, the amazing visuals may be enough to keep you hooked if you are unfamiliar with Dune.

The House Always Wins

One of the most surprising things about Behind The Dune for me was the way that, for the most part, this game plays the story of Dune pretty straight. If you have read the original book or seen the movie from the 80s, you will appreciate how faithful this is to the story of Paul Atreides and his family trying to keep the planet of Arrakis and the valuable Spice out of the hands of those who would not do what is right with it. This is just awesome sci-fi stuff, and it is all very well done here. Clearly, the developer is a massive fan.

Here Is The XXX Twist

Of course, as Behind The Dune is a lewd parody of Dune, there has to be some kind of XXX twist to the story, now doesn’t there. Thankfully, the writing here is very well done, and the characters, for the most part, act like you would expect them to act. However, this is a porn game, and the game has Paul building up relationships with women and having sex with them. Think of the way that sex is handled in media about stuff like Ancient Rome and Egypt, and it is done in a very similar way here.

Sure, I will Go A Second Round

As far as the way that Behind The Dune handles its adventure gameplay goes, I think that the developer has done a fantastic job here. A single playthrough is quite short, but there are different endings, paths, and sex scenes that can be found if you change things up as you progress through the game. You will need to chat with people and make key decisions in regards to what Paul is going to say and do. There is also a little bit of exploration and so on, which keeps the game from being just a straight-up lewd visual novel. I would recommend playing the game blind, but if you do want to see all that it has to offer, there are some great guides out there, but I highly recommend that you play it by yourself the first time through.

Now This Is Beyond The Book And Movie

To say that I was blown away by the presentation of Behind The Dune is a massive understatement. The game certainly has an animated movie style about the visuals, but this captures the style of the movie so very, very well. The game is bright, vibrant, and the character designs are fantastic! The animated sex scenes are awesome, and it has some of the most amazing backdoor scenes I have seen in a lewd game in quite some time. Truly, this is a spectacular looking game, it is even more impressive when you consider that this game came out several years ago as of me writing this!

Many times the power in this territory has changed, for control comes at a cost: lives. Killing for limited resources is commonplace.

Among these spinoffs is a polished adult game called Behind the Dune. Created by David Balsamique (Goujard), Behind the Dune continues the story of Paul Atreides as he finds himself in some steamy encounters. In this version, the developers have based the story on the premise of the 1992 Dune movie.

Gameplay Mechanics

Much like the original Dune story, this game follows Paul’s family in their embarkment to Arrakis to find Spice, the valuable resource. Getting this Spice will help them gain a better reputation and give them a significant boost in defeating the Harkonnen. With the Behind the Dune influence, Paul has a more… intense libido, so the goals for his character are a bit different.

Many of the female characters are busty and ready to drool all over Paul. So, its up to him to keep them in check. Beyond the adult fantasy elements, Behind the Dune manages to create a coherent gameplay style. It uses a companion system to recruit new allies that will help Paul in his journey. This system is akin to Darkest Dungeon without the excruciatingly difficult part.

During regular gameplay, you will have to recruit members of the native Fremen tribes to defeat the Harkonnen. Alongside this, you are also in charge of the Spice production in the game as it is directly attached to your progression. Once you’ve raised Spice to some certain levels, you can gain additional powers such as the ability to command members of the Fremen.

For the casual players

Even with the intricacies of this mechanic, the game is far from difficult and casual players will still find it fun. Having characters accompany you on the journey is a smart way to enable more scenes and diverse interactions with companions. Player choices play a significant role in influencing the endings and types of scenes they’ll get from gameplay.

Behind the Dune manages to keep a consistent high production value. Even with its limited budget as an adult game, it features an awesome soundtrack, a gorgeous art style and a bug-free experience for most of its run.

As a fan spinoff of Dune, the developers did not cheap out on character references. Compared to Bad Manners Part 1, this game does more than just borrow characters. Instead, it expands on them. It’s clear that they’ve done their homework and are well invested into Herbert’s other works beyond Dune.
