Fans of the Visual Novel genre are in for a treat when this upcoming title releases in February of 2022. Cyanotype Daydream-The Girl Who Dreamed the World, is a unique adventure in which multiple storylines weave together in all sorts of thrilling avenues which eventually cross paths and connect to form a climax which will have you stunned.
Not only does this story employ several narratives masterfully, it ensures that each section of the story that you read through keeps you on the edge of your seat craving the next scene just as much as the last. As we see Kaito awaken in an unrecognizable room only to find a silent white haired girl and their overseer Izumo, it becomes relevant that the three separate storylines unravelling in unison around him will shape his future entirely.
As mentioned above, this is a unique venture in the realm of adventure, visual novels. Three separate storylines interweave and form one main plot line which is filled with thrilling escapades and daring feats by the characters. From one storyline we see a near adolescent William Shakespeare who is running a pub with his father who happens to be blind. When Olivia Berry, a fiercely independent woman enters his life, William finds himself falling into a drama of his own not entirely unlike his plays. Through another storyline we have Arishima Kaoru, who works as a 45 year old professor stuck in marital depression having given up his dream of writing.
As life progresses and his marriage worsens, Arishima finds himself falling for a student of his named Hatano Rin whose presence in his life has pushed him to consider chasing the dream once more. Lastly we have Amei Kanna who has dropped out of college and has taken up the challenge to fix his passed mothers old van. When self proclaimed scrap hunter Azuki shows up he finds his courage and the two venture out in search of a private location which Kanna’s mother left him to find from only a drawing.
With such a masterful storyline, interconnecting of three major plots into one, it can be easy for the other features within a game to lack behind in terms of quality. Through Cyanotype Daydream the developers clearly took their time making sure every aspect was just right. The visuals give you a perfect sense of the atmosphere in each story, adjusting just right to the given moods of characters and plot points as they arise. The graphics really pop and catch the eye longer than fans would have imagined as the colour schemes are weaved almost as immaculately as the storylines. Similar graphics could be related to the visual novel, Full Metal Daemon Muramasa, where that story is more action based than about love.
This visual novel has already stolen the hearts of thousands of Japanese fans/players and for good reason. With a storyline like this, crafted precisely to move the overall story along while growing each character with interesting plot points, it is clear that this is a new standard of storytelling within the genre.
- Masterful storytelling and character arcs keep you engaged the entire ride.
- Graphics/visuals really pop off the screen and enhance the atmosphere described through the narrative/communication through characters.
- Adult graphics content, sexuality etc. may deter younger audiences.
- English translation currently facing some issues, should be cleared up soon hopefully though.
