Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden

Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden takes the table top RPG genre to the screen in an entirely exciting adventure played through only cards, lying flat as the games landscape. The overall storyline in this game is that the remote chain of islands which the game is set upon are guarded by maidens for generations, yet now their annihilation is almost inevitable. As the hero of this story you vow to protect the maidens and the islands they guard, while saving them from total destruction. Throughout the game progressions are made by turning over the right cards and being prepared to duel when unfriendly creatures pop up in your path. As a gamebook style experience the story becomes richer as you go along, while the main goal becomes littered with side battles and triumphs all in the name of saving the maidens of the isles.

Gameplay

The game itself, as well as many like it within the genre, is a welcome blend of games such as Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! Both initially created as card games which made the leap to animated series and movies long ago. Where The Forsaken Maiden takes off is through its wonderful storytelling aspect, as you don’t quite know what will happen next, the overall story and plot become clearer the further you progress. As the first game only recently dropped not too long ago, this upcoming release is more than welcome from fans of the first. Although this is not a direct sequel, instead a standalone game, players should still expect the same style of gameplay which doesn’t blow away expectations, but sits comfortably as a casual experience that doesn’t seem to disappoint.

Storyline

As previously mentioned, the story is that your character sets out to save the maidens of the islands and the destruction that has befallen them. All the while your trusty partner, Laty, who had previously tried to become a maiden yet failed, is at your side and fuelled by the desire to fulfill her chosen destiny of guarding the islands. Other than that, as of right now at least, there’s not much information out on what other details will constitute the overall storyline. However if the first game, The Isle Dragon Roars, is any indicator of what fans are in for in terms of delivering a well rounded storyline, there’s nothing to fear.

• Slower paced game may not be enough to hold the attention of certain gamers.
