Miitopia

Nintendo always seems to find somehow to clash realism and fantasy in some humorous, engaging way. Miitopia is the prime example of those ambitions in video game format. The game takes one of its primary character creation engines associated with its consoles into a world where life simulation meets RPG. It sounds like a fascinating prospect on your way to work!

Miitopia seems like a long time coming for the console's players. But the burning question remains, is it any good? Many of these general life simulations on consoles never seem to have much going for them. Then again, Nintendo's track record of success on these things is pretty good. Let's enter the world of Miitopia!

It's All About Mii

Where one would think they'd be mulling around in a universe that's populated by anyone that's got a Nintendo console, that's what you'll be doing! However, a few key differences connect whenever you bump into each other on the side of the road. You're now part of a fantasy world, and you've got some tasks to carry out.

Miitopia puts the Mii you've made in the shoes of a warrior or mage, with more classes available as you progress throughout the game. Believe it or not, there's a story, too. The general premise is a dark lord invades town and tries to steal Mii's face. Pretty evil, right? So you and other Mii's are heading out on an epic quest to stop them.

The gameplay consists of Mii management and the development of combat traits to fulfill your objectives. Honestly, the interfaces and mechanics feel like a kiddie version of what a more in-depth would be like. While it's entertaining and humourous for a little while, the novelty of Miitopia wears off pretty quickly. Players looking to develop their Mii in extraordinary ways won't have much going for them.

As intriguing as a concept Miitopia is, it doesn't feel that exciting. There are many potentials to give players complete control over their Mii's. Things like giving them more personality, creating custom classes, and letting players tackle combat challenges of their own accord. But the result is a game that aligns with Nintendo's walled garden policy.

Mii, Myself, and I

Miitopia is by no means terrible. It's a decent game if you have a few moments on the train or wait around for something. However, those looking for a more customizable RPG or life-simulation experience will feel the game lackluster. Some games would deliver more thrills for players like Tomodachi Life.

So should you invest in the time? Well, let's admit that Miitopia is an average offering at best. But if you have a Nintendo console and have spent significant time with your Mii's creation and social life, perhaps it's worth giving them a whirl in this fantastical universe. Nothing much is lost from doing so, even though it's unlikely you'll be too engaged with the game.
