Roguelites come in all shapes and sizes. You’ve got your RPG roguelites, like Darkest Dungeon, and your FPS roguelites like Risk of Rain 2. What if you didn’t have to choose, though? That’s the fascinating question Gunfire Reborn aims to answer. Part RPG, part FPS, all wrapped up in a tasty roguelite bundle, this hectic level-based game has tons of build possibilities to play around with and all the randomness you can stomach.
Lock and load as we explore everything you need to know about Gunfire Reborn.
It wouldn’t be a roguelite without some good ol’ fashioned randomness. Every subsequent playthrough in Gunfire Reborn aims to be a completely different experience.
From the awesome weapons you can find to the deadly enemies you encounter, each run will require you to adapt to whole new conditions. That isn’t to say that you could end up stuck with bad weapons and abilities, though. Each tool of destruction you come across will be a reliable partner that promises to annihilate all enemies you encounter. The one point of consistency is the diverse selection of characters you can choose from, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
Switch Up Your Playstyle
Gunfire Reborn was built with playstyle variance in mind. Similarly to Dead cells, you’ll start each run with a completely different set of gear. As you progress through the levels, you’ll get new weapons and abilities to choose from. You can choose to swap out your weapons whenever you encounter a new drop or carry on with the loadout you have in-hand. Switching things up is a big part of Gunfire Reborn’s allure as the game encourages a lot of experimentation as well as a high degree of adaptability.
Four is Company
Your Gunfire Reborn experience need not be a solo experience. You can bring up to 4 friends to join you in roguelite co-op goodness. The scaling difficulty the game features will increase the health and damage output of baddies within each level, meaning you and your friends will be up for a challenge. The multiple new game+ runs make it so that the difficulty keeps ramping up the more you play and clear the game.
The only main issue is that when you do choose to play solo, the first playthrough can feel somewhat easy. Gunfire Reborn is still in Early Access, though, so hopefully, that will get tweaked.
If you enjoy the random factors in Dead Cells and want to experience this with an FPS flair, then Gunfire Reborn is the game to try out. It’s high replayability value and frantic gameplay make this a title worth picking up for hours of fun both on your own and with your buddies.
