Happy Summer

I was pretty mind blown to find out that Happy Summer has been in development for five years… five years! I had not heard of this game until a week or so ago and I am kind of shocked that what is here is five years’ worth of work. I would have to assume that the game has to be close to being abandoned as there is not a ton of content here. I would say that this is the kind of game that if you think the art looks interesting, check it out, but if you are not feeling it after ten minutes, walk away as it is not going to pull you in anymore.

We Are Family

The story is probably the real weak aspect of Happy Summer. It is about a middle-aged man who ends up living with his “family” as he tries to improve his life and find love. I hate to be too negative about something that someone has clearly worked really hard on, but the story is just flat out boring. It is long winded, makes very little sense, and did not grab me at all, I found myself skipping through the dialogue and then just asking myself, “why am I even playing this?”.

A Kind Of Plastic Look

Visually, Happy Summer is a game that kind of does a bait and switch. Most of the art is of the super hot looking daughter, but she ends up not being the main love interest. The characters and the animation are decent enough, but the whole game, especially the plastic looking characters. It is hard to explain, but they have this strange plastic look to them that feels very unnatural. Also, the lewd content here is very, very lacking the tease scenes are actually pretty good and have some good and cinematic camera angles, but the whole time I played the game, I did actually see a sex scene.

To go along with the story and the gameplay that did not really do it for me, the gameplay of Happy Summer leaves a lot to be desired to. Have you played a lewd sand box style game before? Have you played a lewd sand box style game that has no direction and you are mostly left wondering what the heck you are actually supposed to do? It is not horrible and I have certainly played worse. However, I think as the story is so uninteresting and the reward are lewd scenes that are not all that great, it makes the gameplay feel even less exciting.

Pros:

• The main “daughter” I guess is pretty hot
• Some people may like the family drama that is going on here
• I will say that the teasing scenes are well done
• The teasing scenes have some nice dynamic camera work

Cons:

• The story and characters are boring as hell!
• The gameplay is very cryptic and you very rarely know what to do
