Islanders is a game that was released back in 2019 by Grizzly Games, a small company composed of only three members. Although not a huge company, it doesn’t fail in delivering a fun and enjoyable experience. It offers a simple and engaging gameplay where you need to build your own city in islands that are generated randomly, and to proceed in the game, you need to reach a certain number of points.
Build Your Town
There are no complex gameplay elements in the game, it’s purpose is to offer a game where you can relax while playing, and requires strategic thinking. So for lovers of chill games to play to release stress, this is a fun choice. Islanders remove the need for constant management of builders and resource management. All buildings are available on your inventory, and as you build more and score more points, other buildings are made available to you.
There are several different islands that can be generated, in different climates, to scorching deserts and snowy terrains that challenge your building techniques. Each island gives you certain restrictions to where buildings can be placed, forcing you to play smarter.
Being able to place buildings correctly is the most important aspect of the game. Certain buildings when put next to each other can either generate more, or less points, depending on their compatibility. To get more buildings, you need to reach a certain number of points, giving you new and more of the same ones. If you run out of buildings while not reaching the points needed to proceed, you will need to start over again. When approaching the points needed, you can either stay in your current island to build more, or proceed to the next island.
Sit Back and Relax
Islanders was made for players who enjoy having relaxing experiences when gaming. So if you’re looking for something to play in your free time Islanders is a great choice. It does provide a certain challenge, but it is mainly meant for you to play peacefully. After completing each stage, your highschore is saved, so there is also the challenge of always trying to find ways to top it.
One of the best aspects of the game is its simplicity. The game delivers exactly what it promises. There aren't hours of gameplay, but it’s a perfect city builder.
Islanders was developed by a small team of only three people, so it is amazing to see what they accomplished with this game. They took the best part of city builders games, and left out the more complex parts. That way players can sink hours in it while not having to worry about managing workers and upgrading buildings, among other things. All players focus on is placing the buildings in the correct spots, and putting them in places to accumulate more points.
If you like games of this genre such as Sim City, and want something relaxing to play, Islanders is perfect. You can play it on PC, macOS and Linux.
