Lego Racers 2

LEGO Racers 2 is a LEGO-branded racing game released in 2001. It is a sequel to LEGO Racers which was released in 1999. LEGO Racers 2 is quite similar to kart racing games like Mario Kart and Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed which allows you to race opponents while attacking each other with weapons you pick up along the way.

Gameplay

The game features five different open worlds namely Sandy Bay, Xalax, Dino Island, Arctis, and Mars. You race against multiple drivers in each world before confronting a final boss. You can select a prebuilt car for each world or build your own car. Each world has limited car options. After selecting a car, you drive round the world to begin races.

After beating the final boss race in each world, you unlock one or two bonus races. As you beat bosses and win games, you collect powerups. These powerups do different things from making your car faster to making it more resistant to damage. You win races by passing through checkpoints in a correct order and finishing the final lap as the first. You can have up to 11 opponents in a race.

You start from Sandy Bay where you beat the four challengers and the boss there. You access new worlds by winning races to collect golden LEGO bricks and finding some hidden golden bricks in each world. Each boss race comes with their own unique challenge. After unlocking all worlds, the final race is against Rocket Racer who is the galactic racing champion.

In LEGO Racers 2, players can drive or race freely, so you have more freedom than the first game. You can explore the world freely while chatting with the people you meet. This is unlike the first game where you can’t talk to characters. The characters talk in a funny manner and dialog can’t be skipped. Talking to the characters will lead you to find bonus games and hidden treasures.

LEGO Racer 2 allows you to attack your opponents while racing them. There are 4 kinds of weapons that you can use to attack opponent cars. You get weapons by touching bubbles with your car. You can also pick up an invisibility shield. If your car gets damaged, you can repair it by driving between a pair of pink fences. If your vehicle gets destroyed, your character must run on foot to a repair station before you can regain access to your car.

When you finish the adventure mode, you can play the arcade mode that that allows you to race other drivers on any of the 24 tracks that you have unlocked.

Editor

LEGO Racers 2 has an editor where you can design cars and characters. You have access to more bricks for your design than the earlier game. You select a car frame before cramming bricks onto it to build your car.

Multiplayer

There is a split-screen multiplayer mode. Unfortunately, there is nothing like online or local network multiplayer. You and the second player must share the same screen to play against each other.
