This game plays like other retro adventure games of this era like Castlevania, Metroid, Contra, Double Dragon and Streets of Rage. However, also plays like more modern games like Rogue Legacy and Shovel Knight. This game is a pixelated, sexy retro encounter but is it one that will live long in the memory? The Witching Hour

Let's begin with the visuals for this game. While the game takes a retro approach, much like games like Shovel Knight and Celeste. The game does offer modern details and sprinkles of charm to make it more than an outdated medium of presentation. For example, every time you take damage, you lose items of clothing which is a simple touch but one that makes sense with the context of the game. Plus, the more raunchy scenes are well presented, well animated and strangely arousing.

Then onto the gameplay. This aspect of the game is the most predictable but in a fun and nostalgic way. Leaving players with a positive feeling as they wander through the hallowed halls of this castle setting. The combat is simple, as is the platforming, the navigation and the exploratory aspects of the game. This is exactly what you want and makes the game feel like an arcade game that could have been around back in the day.

Then last, we take a look at the story. While it is told completely through text with some visual aids, we have to say, the game makes the most of their resources. The story, again while simple is interesting, well written and when the need arises, it can get pretty hot and heavy too.

The Verdict

Overall, we have to say that while this one is a simple game, we can't help but love its arcade feel and it's charm. The story is a joy from start to finish, the sexual content is handled excellently, the gameplay is simple but effective and additive as all arcade games should be and as a whole, this game just works.
