Sega Rally Revo

Sega Rally Revo served as something of a reboot for the series, but at the time of release not too many people stood up and took notice. This was a real shame as this is a fun arcade-style racer and a game that I personally have had a lot of fun with. It may lack the “realism” of what you get in modern rally games, but to me the fun this game offers more than makes up for that.

Going For That Championship

The main gameplay mode in Sega Rally Revo is the Championship. As the name suggests the goal here is to win various championships. You earn points as you progress and these are used to unlock new championships, races, cars, and so on. This mode starts off pretty easy, but the AI in the later championships does not screw around! You do also have a single race and a time trial mode too.

This game has a great selection of cars. There are over 30 cars and they are split into different categories. Premier Class, Modified Class, and Master Class. Premier Class features cars like 4-wheel drive. Modified Class offers you 2-wheel drive cars and more sporty types. Master Class is here you will find the classic style of cars you would associate with a rally game.

Slipping And Sliding

I can see why some people would play this for the first time and hate it. Sega Rally Revo has a very unique kind of feel to the actual driving. This is 100 percent an arcade-style racing game and it is even more “arcade” than most. The cars have a kind of floaty and slippery feel to them as they move all over the track.

It can take more than a few races to get the feel for this game down. However, once you do and you realize that this is not supposed to be like Dirt or other types of realistic racing games, you will start to have a lot more fun with it.

Variety Is The Spice Of Life

This game features a ton of tracks and I love the variety on offer here. Sega Rally Revo will have you racing in the forest, on a safari-type track, on a mountain, and so on. Each track has a different kind of terrain such as snow, dirt, mud, and so on, and this doe salter the way the cars handle. The visuals are great and I think the game holds up very well to this day.

Like all Sega racing games, this one has a rocking good soundtrack that pumps you up and makes you want to take each and every corner that you come across at full speed.

• Championship Mode offers one heck of a tough challenge

• The game is lacking in modes
• The controls do require some time investment to get the hang of them
