Puzzlers are an extremely popular genre for good reason. It’s a relaxing way to spend your time as you work to figure out how to make things work in the game. Although they are fun, they’re usually not especially innovative. Sonority is the fresh new face in the puzzler world that is bringing in some much-needed change. In this unique take on puzzle games, music is magical, and you can use different songs to help you on your adventure.

A beautiful world

It is obvious from the first moment you play this game, great care was put into the development of the world. The world is richly designed and feels like there is a real culture and history behind it. The game revolves around exploring this world and solving ancient puzzles through music. A specific set of musical notes will solve each puzzle. The effort to create a storyline that supports these music puzzles is noticeable throughout the game, and greatly appreciated.

Not a rhythm game

Many puzzlers involving music, such as Friday Night Funkn’, use rhythm to create puzzles to solve. This is not the same. Instead, you will listen to notes and try to copy them closely. Although this is simply meant to be a relaxing game, it may also make an interesting exercise for those working on their ear training, such as music students.

Atmospheric music

A game revolving around music needs to have a pretty epic soundtrack, and this one delivers. The music in the game is very well done and adds to the atmosphere of the world you explore with the main character, Esther.

Hanging Gardens offer endless gameplay

Sonority has plenty to offer in the story itself, but it also offers something more. The game will offer players the ability to create their own puzzles using the same musical concept. These puzzles can be shared with others. The ability to try your own hand at these music puzzles greatly increases the long-term playability of the game.

Still in the early stages

This game launches May 25th. The demo is currently all that is playable, but there is a lot of exciting content yet to be released. While it is too early to tell at this time if there are any errors dotted through the main content, the demo is beautiful and gives a clear idea of gameplay.

There are a few minor issues with the demo. The optimization in the game still needs tweaked, as there have been reports of stuttering. The menu could also be improved for a better user experience. In the big scheme of things however, these are relatively small and will hopefully be fixed by the main release.
