Boy, if I had a (insert your chosen currency here) for every time I found myself caught up in a sacrificial ritual where nuns are being abducted in the villages and being taken into the dark forest to be given to a higher being for a mysterious purpose. Well, I guess we would have one of said currency because that is essentially the plot of this Metroid-Vania meets adult game title, Summon Of Asmodeus.

As we said this one plays rather similarly to any classic Metroidvania style game such as Metroid, Castlevania, Rogue Legacy or Hollow Knight. However the story and overall tone of the game is one that is much darker, more sinister and involves a great deal more nudity and pornographic material. But hey, no one said that was a bad thing.

Wonderful Visuals

The art style for this title is the asset that will immediately grab your attention and have you muttering surprised expletives under your breath. The title has a really slick style that brings that typical Japanese anime style to a 2D Metroid style format perfectly. The animations are smooth, the areas are diverse and wonderfully realised and the character models are instantly recognisable and diverse from each other.

Then on top of that, the UI is fantastic within this game. What usually happens within this genre is that developers often pack the screen with unnecessary details which take away from the eye candy behind. This game, however, does not fall into this trap at all, allow the player to take in the scenery with little to distract from the wonderful vistas.

Brutally Short

One downside to this game is that the runtime is laughably short. So much so that you’ll probably curse yourself that you bought this one for full price. However, the short time that you have with this one is at least rather enjoyable. You’ll play witness to a number of intricate combat mechanics that allow you to hit from close and long-range, dodge, revive health and use skills that you’ll acquire throughout the run.

Admittedly though, despite the combat being passable, there are some issues with it. One is that it’s pretty basic in truth. You’ll have seen all of this before and there is little to define from a well-made flash game in some respects mechanically. The other issue is that enemies often combo lock you in place, meaning that getting hit once rarely ever means getting hit just once, which can be a pain.

There is a certain level of replay-ability that redeems the game to an extent through your ability to play through the in more challenging play styles such as without the use of any demon blood for example. However, if you can’t motivate yourself to try this one in a more compelling playstyle you’ll likely only get about 90 minutes of game time out of this game.

Short and sort of sweet

There are definitely redeeming qualities to this game. I mean how many adult themed games go to the trouble of making gameplay aspects never mind a whole Metroidvania style outing. It’s commendable in this respect and the story isn’t too bad either. However, the length of the title is criminal and the combat is basic at best.

5.5

If you can get this one on sale then it wouldn’t be too bad of an option but at full price, we would say give this one a miss.

Pros

  • Decent plot
  • The art style is fantastic
  • Some replayability

Cons

  • Ridiculously short runtime
  • Combat is basic
