Barotrauma is so much more than your typical submarine game; indeed, when we think of submarines, we usually think of a deep-sea setting – but what if we were to tell you that this doesn’t have to be the case. In fact, Barotrauma offers the same exhilarating submarine experience – but in space, a twist that’s likely to intrigue many sci-fi fans.
What is Barotrauma?
What is Barotrauma? As already mentioned, Barotrauma is a sci-fi survival game that also blends in multiplayer co-op features to keep things exciting. The game’s basic premise is that humanity has fled the Earth, favoring one of Jupiter’s moons as the destination for relocation. However, the surface of the moon is frozen over and radioactive, and to this end, mankind has taken to the seas underneath the ice in massive submarines.
Barotrauma is a multiplayer co-op game, although players can also create bots to supplement the player count if they would prefer to play with fewer friends. The game recommends playing with between two and sixteen players for the best experience.
Missions and Objectives
While managing your submarine and crafting new upgrades, you will also want to make sure that you’re working towards the game objectives and missions. These will help save the final survivors of the human race as they attempt to live out their lives under the frozen surface of Jupiter’s moon!
One of the biggest gameplay components in Barotrauma is the need to continually monitor what’s going on in your submarine, as disasters and danger can occur at any point in time. The lack of a notification system for danger adds an additional sense of realism and danger to the gameplay and keeps players continually on their toes. The game can automatically generate monsters, or new monster designs can be created by the players themselves.
Keep Your Friends Close
There’s an old saying: keep your friends close and your enemies closer. This saying can have particularly significant meaning in Barotrauma; your allies could turn on you at any moment! Always stay alert – it’s crucial to make the most of your game!
Combining various genres into one, Barotrauma is an exhilarating and fast-paced multiplayer, cooperative survival game that requires a great deal of focus, attention, and alertness. Indeed, with dangers being unannounced and your crew potentially turning on you at any point, the stakes are high, and this has largely contributed to the game’s success overall.
Rating and Similar Games
Overall, Barotrauma is an excellent game for anyone who enjoys the side-scroller design, and its multiplayer functionality makes it engaging and seamless. The game is often considered as a more dynamic and exhilarating alternative to FTL (Faster Than Light), although in an underwater setting and with more detailed graphics.
Overall, we give the game a rating of 8/10, with only the lack of lore and mastery difficulty dropping it down slightly.
The game offers an intense and exhilarating experience, and you never know when you’ll need to jump in to act; this is an excellent way to keep you on your toes and alert!
Multiplayer game offers the ability to play with (or against!) your friends, or you can otherwise create a crew using the system bots to make up the numbers.
Allies and friends can turn traitorous at any time, so you can’t get too comfortable with your submarine at any point – no matter how many weapons you might have stashed!
The procedural generation of new maps and missions ensures that every gameplay experience is unique.
The side-scroller graphics may not be ideal for everyone, and this may limit the overall enjoyment of the game for some players.
