Clid The Snail

Visually impressive and mechanically solid, Clid The Snail is a fascinating and honestly unique top-down shooter that’s frankly like nothing we have ever seen before. Exiled from his home and lost in a world where humans are no more, join Clid in his epic odyssey through the remnants of civilization.

It’s rare to see an indie game that looks this good, especially one that also features an eccentric and impressively competent gameplay like this one does. Even more remarkable still is the game’s commitment to delivering a touching, character-driven story that really makes the odd world of Clid the Snail feel slimy and alive.

A World of Snails

In Clid The Snail you play as a creepy crawler that has been exiled from his home. In his new life as an outcast, Clid meets Belu, a fast-talking firefly. Together, they must find a group to survive the inclement wastes of their world in search of a place to call home.

At first glance, it might sound like Clid The Snail is your run-of-the-mill indie adventure, but the developers went the extra mile to deliver one of the most action-packed top-down shooters we’ve ever seen.

In a move that seems similar to what Hotline Miami achieved some years back, Clid The Snail is a game that emphasizes fast movement and having a smart trigger finger. Tactics play a key role in this game, as players will be forced to choose the right tools for the job in every encounter.

The world of Clid is a wasteland where humans are only a vague memory. This is not the cutesy environment we’re used to seeing in games like Worms Armageddon: this is, to put it simply, a dead and barren land.

In these desolate wastes, life thrives in new and curious ways. The insect civilization has a distinct cyberpunk aesthetic that seems a bit reminiscent of Machinarium, sans the robots, of course. In a way, Clid The Snail feels like a more action-heavy version of Hollow Knight, complete with the talkative bugs and all.

Visually Striking

One look at Clid The Snail reveals an impressive display of technical prowess that’s really hard to match. Most of the AAA games released these days struggle to match the quality of this game’s stunning presentation, and that’s not including the outstanding art design.

Exploring the wastes is a unique experience, made even better thanks to the game’s excellent character development. In a game as explosive as this, it’s refreshing to see the plot still shining as it does here, complete with playful banter to keep the spirits up in Clid’s unforgiving world.

It is also worth noting that the game is hard as nails. Every boss encounter is an epic experience that’s worthy of the Dark Souls series. You’ll die a lot in this game, but that’s all part of the challenge of a game that values the time of the player, and aims to deliver an interactive experience that can be appreciated by casual and hardcore players alike.
