Sandbox games with no story content or anything of the sort have been a thing for a while, some games choose to focus on specific things to do meanwhile some games try to do everything, even triple AAA games these days have been expanding their sandboxes more and more, so what is it really about them that makes sandboxes so appealing? Is it the ability to freely be able to do anything you want that captures the fun of it? Or is doing anything you want boring because you don’t really get told what to do and how to do it?

Dude Simulator is one such game, it can’t really be compared to a lot of games in its gameplay, aside from maybe a poorer version of Grand Theft Auto with no objectives whatsoever in the game. The game simulates “real life” or at least it tries to do and miserably fails at doing so.

No Gameplay Simulator

The game has almost nothing to offer to its players, you just walk around and cause mayhem until you get killed by cops or you get tired enough to put it down and never touch it again, it’s fun to play for the initial 20 minutes, but afterwards it’s just content deprived lacklustre Grand Theft Auto with not many ways to cause chaos other than the same, kill NPC, steal money, buy gun, kill npc.

There’s not much to say about the game’s gameplay other than that, there’s no doubt that the game’s premise is non-existent and the gameplay is lacklustre, but there’s one question still unanswered, is the game itself fun? Yes.

Time to Kill Simulator

This game was made for the purpose of killing time; I strongly believe that, without a shadow of a doubt in my mind. The game has nothing but mindless running and gunning and doing wacky stunts on a shopping cart which control terribly by the way, just like the cars in the game. Luckily, the NPCs are stupid enough for it to be fun when you’re killing them; they just run at you and try to punch you for the most part.

There’s a bunch of guns to choose from, such as the assault rifle, the shotgun, a pistol and grenades, not to mention your fists. The game has a very cutesy art style and graphics, with the entire game being in a box art looking world; which just makes killing the enemies even more fun because it doesn’t even feel bad that you’re doing unspeakable things to this game’s world.

Boring After a Little While Simulator

Eventually though, the game runs out of the few things it has for you to do, you run out of wanting to shoot people, or drive the terribly wonky cars or shopping carts, and you run out of basically anything to do in the game.

6

That is the main problem with this specific genre of games, they do not have much to do so they become tiring quick, but at a $2.99 price point, I wouldn’t really expect much else from it to be honest.

Pros

  • Fun and quirky art style
  • Wacky NPC animations and ragdolls

Cons

  • Nothing much to do
  • Boring gameplay after a few minutes of playing
  • Terrible controlling of both cars and guns
