Goonya Monster

Asymmetrical Multiplayers have come and gone, but with little change in the past years. Goonya Monster promises to be a fresh new look at this unique subgenre. In asymmetrical multiplayers, two teams have different tasks assigned to them and different goals. In Goonya Monster’s case 3 of you will be fighting to kill a monster, and one of you will be that monster.

The game is broken up into manageable 3-minute matches. If you’ve never played before or aren’t quick on your reflexes, this may well be the longest 3 minutes of your life. The monster has super skills and an undead army to control, while the 3 team members fighting against it must work together to bring the monster down.

Limited Selection of Weapons

Players on either side have a limited selection of weapons they can choose from. The monster has access to all the typical supernatural skills you can think of when playing a nasty boss monster. They have the ability to shoot laser beams or change their size to become a gigantic threat.

Players fighting the monster have weapons like shotguns and flamethrowers. If you’ve ever played Mutan’s Goonya Fighter, this is from the same developer and has very similar vibes.

One minor concern we have about this game is that while there is a selection of weapons to choose from, it looks like that selection may be very limited. Since the game is not released yet, it’s hard to tell for sure if there is more that can be unlocked later, or if the selection shown is really it.

Balanced Gameplay

One of the biggest problems with fighting bosses is that the AI often makes them predictable. With a human in control of the boss, it’s truly a wildcard whether players will be victorious over the monster or not. Monster abilities are stronger than player abilities, but the 3:1 ratio truly creates a nice balance.

Awesome Graphics

This is a party game and is meant to be a fun and quick form of entertainment. The bright colors and charming graphics this game is styled in go a long way to capturing that fun feeling. All of the artwork is done in a cute, chibi style, with smooth animation and adorable looks.

While this style might not be for everyone, they are well done and charming to look at.

Unlockable Content

These 3-minute matches are entertaining, but they might get boring after a few days of constant play. Luckily, the developers have thought of this and have added unlockable content to sweeten the deal. As you progress in your fights, you can unlock new costumes to wear every step of the way.

Asymmetrical gameplay requires a fresh look to help it ascend above other, similar games. Goonya Monster promises a balanced and fun match between a large and fierce monster, and weaker but more combatants.
