You have to wonder what is going through people's heads when they conceptualize games like JellyCar Worlds. But honestly, if they can pull off these mad ideas, the results speak for themselves. Our point of focus is going to be on this whacky driving game. On paper, it makes no sense. Visually, the game could be massively entertaining.
JellyCar World is a hybrid of a puzzle platformer and a racing game, two genres you don't believe would work well together. The core mechanic is laden in the title, where players will drive squishy cars around in a bouncy world. One would feel this has 'ridiculous' written all over it, but the only way to find out is to play!
JellyCar Worlds is a game that's a modern take on a classic. That's news, as I never crossed this odd yet intriguing concept in my decades of gaming. But alas, we enter a world made of jelly. Players aim to overcome the weird and wonderful obstacles with their squishy automobile. Why? Nobody knows, but what's certain is the gameplay is far more compelling than one would imagine.
There are multiple weirdly drawn levels, each with its mechanical challenges. Once players think they've got a grip on controlling automobiles and leveraging the physics, a new set of rules comes into play. The diversity in gameplay is impressive, and it certainly keeps players on their toes. However, changing the direction set so much on each level can become frustrating.
JellyCar Worlds' visuals fit the whacky premise of the game, with environments bubbling, squishing, and behaving like jelly in every way possible. It does present a challenge and a decent way to pass the time. But as much as gameplay can entertain, it feels disjointed as a whole package. The title focuses on looking strange rather than delivering some artsy indie gameplay.
But perhaps that's what it's meant to do. Just be a classic, enhanced remake of the game original players enjoyed years ago. It may work on that premise, but new players will probably only be amused by the bizarreness of everything that's going on in JellyCar Worlds. There's no rhyme or reason other than to fit your automobile into places it has no business being.
No Ordinary Racetrack
So the core question. Are JellyCar Worlds worth playing? The fact that the visuals are so amusing is the driver to give it a whirl. It's got that same allure factor as Geometry Dash, online without the mechanical consistency. But is the game the revolutionary indie puzzle platformer that we think it could be? No, the gameplay is too all over the place.
JellyCar Worlds is one of those cutesy games that could easily entertain kids and adults alike. It's simple enough to understand yet challenging enough not to be bland. It's worth a shot, don't expect anything groundbreaking.
