Last Remains

Get ready to face a mutated zombie horde in Last Remains! This is a 3rd person survival game that me and my buddies are pretty hyped for. Yes, we have seen this thing a million times before already, but there is a lot here that is really clicking with me and I wanted to share my thoughts on it with you. The early access build of the game already has a lot of the key components in place so to me, they just need to start cranking out more content for the game and I can see this being a real fixture of my multiplayer game nights.

The Gleam

I will admit, I am not 100 percent sure what the deal with the story in Last Remains is, but what I have seen so far is pretty damn cool. There has been a zombie outbreak, but this is a bit different. There is something called the gleam and it is mutating people into these zombie like creatures that are like a mixture between the zombies in 28 Days Later, the Demogorgon in Stranger Things, and even a little bit of the creatures from A Quiet Place. Basically, we play as a survivor who needs to do all that they can to survive just one more day in the hopes of making it out of the city.

Just Keep Moving

One of the things that interested me about Last Remains was that the game was not super slow paced. I am not saying stuff like World War Z is slow paced, but here there is an emphasis on running and parkour, perhaps a little bit like what you get in Dying Light, but only it is in the 3rd person here. The game controls really smoothly and when you are faced with a dire situation, you do feel that you have the physical moves to potentially run away and get yourself out of the sticky situation that you have found yourself in.

This Is Your Survival!

Last Remains is a game that kind of lets you play it any way that you want. You can play this on your own and just try to do what you can to survive. The trouble is that you have these gleam zombies that want to eat you and also there are other players that want to take the loot that you have! You get the best of PvE and PvP here and me and a couple of buddies have decided that we are going to band together and try to form a little posse that tries to survive. You are free to tackle situations any way that you want, you can try and go in all guns blazing or you can be more stealthy about it. Of course, when I try and be stealthy, I usually end up being the one to screw it up and end up in a firefight and I am sure that is going to happen here, but hey, I will try!

Make It To The Chopper!

The idea of a round/game or whatever you want to call it in Last Remains is that you need to make it to the extraction chopper. If you do this, you get to keep your loot and any progress that you have made on this run and that is the way progression in the game is handled. The thing is, it is so tempting to stay just a little longer to maybe find some better loot or even get a little enhanced thanks to the gleam, but not so enhanced that you become some kind of zombie monster yourself! I can see there being a lot of arguments in teams where some may want to cut and run with what they have and others will find the temptation of finding something better too strong!

Pros:

• I love the idea of these gross mutated zombies
• There is lots of loot to collect and customize your character with
• You can play the game stealthily or go in all guns blazing
• I do think they are trying to put their own stamp on the zombie survival game genre

Cons:

• Is this one zombie survival game too many for some people?
• I hope this has a strong online community to play with
