Meet Your Maker

Sometimes a game studio comes to be recognized by just one of the many games they develop, and it can be a little hard to come out of a big shadow if you made a really successful game. Behaviour Interactive is well known for making one of the most original cooperative horror games on the market, and now they went ahead to make something new and very different. A first-person shooter by the name of Meet Your Maker. This innovative game is not your average FPS with a multiplayer mode like the many we've seen through the years. But if that's the case, what makes it so unique? Well, let's talk about it!

About the game

It is an FPS, which has elements of construction in a very special way because apparently, we will have to assault other creations, all based on a post-apocalyptic futuristic universe. In this world, players will take control of the Keeper, a servant of the Chimera, a living experiment created as the last refuge to save life on earth.

Meet Your Maker is all about the base building: you have a huge selection of different blocks in all sorts of shapes at your disposal to build your post-apocalyptic outpost according to your wishes.

The goal is to make the center of your base as hard to reach as possible, as other players will want to get to it to steal important resources from you - more on that later. Attack and defense are asynchronous: So when other people enter your End Times dungeon, you are not there (and vice versa). You just defend yourself by building smart. Meet Your Maker is therefore a PvP game without direct contact with enemies.

We will have to build our defense keeping in mind to leave a stable path for a "harvester", who will feed our genetic material. The second key is that other Custodians, managed by other players, will assault our fortress. Later we will be able to see these assaults, as if they were a recording, to improve them by detecting possible weak points.

In the action part, we can effectively assault the genetic material of other fortresses, even accompanied by another player, but be careful, because we will only have a single life. One hit, and that's it. Meet your Maker is designed to be a challenge, regardless of the design of the fortress we face.

Incredibly Original

There's probably never been a shooter quite like this one: Meet Your Maker, from the studio behind Dead by Daylight, mixes base building, looting, and leveling up into the action. This kind of asynchronous multiplayer combat has proven to be a great innovation for the genre.

Rarely have we seen any developer take this route of having the gameplay of a violent first-person shooter, fighting monsters in industrial facilities like in Doom. But that will only be one part of the experience, the other is designing labyrinthine fortifications and filling them with traps and enemies.
