Midnight Ride is an adult visual novel where you and the heroine have to make a lot of hard decisions on the way home. After a fight with her boyfriend, Serena goes home alone, at night, using only hitchhiking. How will such a questionable event turn out for the girl?

Not to be confused with the movie of the same name, Midnight Ride is a lewd visual novel that feels like something that could be on game pass…. If it was not a XXX game of course! I had a bit of a strange time playing through this game. You see, I played through it multiple times, but I am still not 100 percent sure how I feel about it. My thinking was if I get what I feel down into words, it will make me come to a definitive decision if the game is good or not.

The Lonely Highway!

The main character in Midnight Ride is a chick called Serena and I have to say… she is a bit of a bitch! She and her boyfriend have a pretty rocky relationship (they are both at fault to be fair) and one night, she goes too far and he has had enough. He kicks her out of the car and tells her to walk home in the dead of night. Stranded and all alone, Serena realizes that she has to hitchhike if she wants to get home.

The Rules Of The Road

One of the reasons why I was attracted to Midnight Ride was that I got vibes from a story game like Road 96 or even As Dusk Falls. You see, different vehicles will stop and offer Serena a ride and it is up to us to decide if their intentions are good or not! Some people just want to offer help, while others have more sinister and “rapey” agendas in mind, heck the game flat out tells us that her not getting molested is the goal! I think the premise here is pretty good, to be honest, but the writing is rather bland and boring and never quite lives up to it. I will admit, I did end up skipping past a few sections.

Back At One

One of the good things about Midnight Ride is that from the extras menu, you can load in at any point you want. The game has multiple endings and this is a good way to see what the game has without playing the whole thing from scratch each time you start. However, the “gameplay” here is very linear, most of what you are doing is just clicking the screen to make the text box advance. I think they could have spiced it up a bit with some more dramatic stuff if I am being honest.

A Rather Shocking Outcome!

As you would expect, Midnight Ride has a lot of lewd content! Serena can get into some pretty crazy situations, some that she is all for and others she is not. It can make some of the sex scenes harder to deal with than others if I am being honest. The quality of the visuals here is a bit of a mixed bad. The title screen is pretty horrendous if I am being honest and I wondered what kind of low level game I had just purchased. However, the actual game is not that bad. There is no animation here, it is all static and the game is pretty much silent, but some of the lewd situations are pretty hot, if you do not mind static pictures.

Pros:

• I liked the premise of the game
• Each person that picks you up offers a different story
• You can jump in and replay any checkpoint
• There is something here that kept me wanting to play

Cons:

• The game lacks polish in the visual department
• It just feels like it is lacking something to make it live up to the fantastic premise that it has
