Story and Setting

In this game, mankind faces a tough future in the form of alien invaders. Without any solid ways to respond, humanity races to create the perfect weapons to turn the tides and fight back against their invaders. The Tactical Surface fighters are a group of powerful humanoid machines that are able to face the looming alien threat. As a member of this team, it is up to you to join forces with the rest of your crew and handle the incoming invasions.

For the overarching storyline in Total Eclipse remastered, the game follows Yuuya Bridges, a test pilot who suffered a fatal accident during training. As a result of this, he is assigned to a new unit where he must adapt to a series of odd coworkers and a stern boss. As a visual novel with romantic elements, there’s a lot of fun to be had with interacting amongst the characters.

Gameplay

Alternative to Muv-Luv Originally a novel series, Total Eclipse was adapted into an anime in 2012 and a visual novel for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. Then, for this PC release, a new version of the visual novel was created. It tells a stand-alone tale that focuses on many personalities and offers an alternative view of humanity's conflict with the BETA. Stories like Clannad and Rewrite+ seem to have more to offer in terms of gameplay.

Because of the visual novel style, there isn’t much to see in terms of gameplay direction. Instead, you’re mainly going to be dealing with the choices available to your character during the course of your adventures.

A worthy Remaster?

In Muv Luv Alternative Total Eclipse Remastered, there’s a lot of exciting things to see and do compared to the original. The improved visuals are a spectacle worth talking about at any point in time. With the game being remastered for the 2022 release, it arrives in a perfect time where a lot of people are a bit freer to do their own explorations more than ever.
