Russia 2055 is a game that looks particularly interesting for a variety of reasons. First and foremost - the game is being developed by what is claimed to be a single developer. The other main one being the shroud of mystery that surrounds the game in its upcoming release. Not a whole lot of information has been given behind it outside of the teasers.
The game was first teased a couple years ago to a spectacular cinematic. Thus far - it has been announced the game will be a tactical shooter based on a near-future timeline. It's hard to see how this game will see the light of day any time soon, given it looks to have a high standard of production behind it. We can look into it more to discover what Russia 2055 is all about.
The Aliens Have Landed...in Siberia
We don't actually know what the narrative behind Russia 2055 is yet - but we can get a pretty good idea from the teaser. The epic cinematic showcases Russian soldiers and their mech-arsenal taking on a horde of alien invaders against the concrete brutalist buildings associated with Russian towns. That outlines the elementary objectives of the game. But the sheer scale of Russia 2055 suggests a higher purpose.
We have seen some basic gameplay teasers that don't exactly show the combat sequences - but a few abilities of the tactical shooter. Visually, aesthetically and mechanically - Russia 2055 looks remarkably well refined. It comes across as a AAA standard game, making it hard to believe a single person is modeling and programming the entire offering.
The little information parallel with the grandeur of the cinematics has ruffled the veils of mystery in Russia 2055. It has lead many gamers to theorize that the game will be a by-product of big developers - something that has been done before. Hideo Kojima did this with the final offering of his beloved franchise.
Whatever the case - Russia 2055 looks stunning, intriguing, and a perfectly playable shooter. Albeit the lead we have to go on - there's enough to get excited about. The scenery, models, combat mechanisms, and interactions set the scene for what could be a very engaging tactical shooter. We continue to await updates with great interest.
Is It? Or, Isn't It?
If anybody remembers the reveal of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - Russia 2055 has similar bearings. Hideo Kojima faked a development company and game title up to the reveal - which is why people think this may be one of his titles. The games showcase also bears coincidental assets from the Metal Gear Solid franchise - including the models, sound design, and ideas.
It's probably farfetched to think this is a Kojima game - but it's still hard to believe InvictusVolition is a single developer. If that's the case - don't hold your breath for the release of Russia 2055. What we can say, we are very intrigued to discover more of the gameplay - and look forward to downing some alien scum in the Motherland!
