The original game was a smash hit and even part of a movie, but Super Meat Boy Forever is a game that is really dividing the fans of what the original meat had to offer. I went into this with an open mind and for the most part, I am very happy with what they did. They could have just redone what they did before and called it a day, but I salute the folks at team meat for trying something different.

He Took Our Daughter

You know the movie Taken? Well, that is pretty much the plot of Super Meat Boy Forever. Meat Boy and Bandage Girl survived the horrors that the evil Dr. Fetus threw their way in the first game and they came out stronger for it. So strong that they had an “adorable” daughter called Nugget.

Well, if you played the first game, you know that Dr. Fetus was not going to take this laying down. He kidnaps Nugget and it is up to Meat Boy and Bandage Girl to go all Liam Neeson on his ass to get Nugget back.

Keep Moving Forward

The charm of the first game was how it was one of the most precise platform games ever made. It was hard as nails, but it was fair, it was a game that was 100-percent all about skill. With Super Meat Boy Forever they have changed the formula. It is no longer a platforming game, instead what we have here is an endless runner-style game where Meat Boy and Bandage Girl are running as soon as a level starts!

There are a ton of levels in the game and instead of precision platforming being the name of the game. Super Meat Boy Forever is a game that is all about timing. Timing your jumps, your slides, and when you hit an enemy. It still has boss battles, but these too are done in the runner style. The game is most certainly a lot of fun, but I am sure many people will be shocked at how different it is from the last Meat Boy game.

The Pop Culturist!

One of the things that I loved about Indie Game The Movie when it showed the development of the original Super Meat Boy was you could tell the guys at Team Meat were just like us. At the end of the day, they are gamers at heart and the number of awesome references that the first game had to other games and pop culture was awesome. Super Meat Boy Forever has that same style and it is impossible not to fall in love with this hyper-violent world. It looks better than the first game as things are sharper this time around.

In addition to those silky-smooth visuals, you also have a soundtrack that is awesome and fits with the gameplay perfectly. I loved the various tracks here and there is a great blend of music that will make you nervous and also jack you up for a particularly tough level.

I think that Super Meat Boy Forever is a fun game. I read that it is like Super Mario Bros 2 is to the original Super Mario Bros and I cannot think of a better comparison than that! This game does what it does very, very well, but those who came here expecting what they got with the original Super Meat Boy will be disappointed. I liked that it had the same style, characters, and sense of humor and I think the runner style of gameplay fits these characters very well.
