The Ascent is an action-packed RPG game that is set in a cyberpunk world (without all the bugs). The game adds an extra layer of creativity to the established RPG genre style that we enjoy through their interesting combat system.
The Ascent is created by Neon Giants and is set in the world of Veles. If you have played cyberpunk or seen any of its contents, then the map for The Ascent will feel very familiar. The map aesthetics are very similar to that of Cyberpunk 2077 where it is set in the future with a busy city area that is riddled with filth and clear socio-economic segregation. On one side, you have the corporate high risers that live at the highest peaks of the buildings while the poor are left to squander the streets. Filled with vibrant colors and immersive graphics, it will really feel like you are part of the experience
The Story of The Ascent
The story is rather simple and not particularly anymore interesting than other dystopian fantasy games. It is set in a futuristic dystopian world called Veles that is ruled by megacorporations called “The Ascent Group”. While it does have a rather generic storyline, it doesn’t stop it from being a really fun shooter game that you can immerse yourself in.
The Shooting Mechanics
While many action-RPG games that involve guns and shooting tend to become very repetitive and boring, The Ascent takes it just a little bit further. The general concept of the whole genre of a shooter game is to aim, shoot and then kill the enemies without dying yourself. This will involve you running, evading, and dodging potentially lethal weapons. Unlike some games, however, the guns in this game does have a recoil, so be mindful of that. Other than that, the guns in this game is lethal and can really shred your enemies apart.
The type of enemies you’ll encounter are vast and it is a good idea to keep a variety of weapons just in case. You never know which enemy you will encounter. Here are some of the enemies you might encounter:
- COMBAT HACKER
- LIGHT MONOBOT
- ASCENDER COMBATANTS
- NUG ENGINEERS
Co-op Option - that is right! They do have a co-op game mode that you can tag along with a friend to play with. Best of all? You can play with up to 3 friends. The game supports local multiplayer up to 4 people.
- Amazing visual graphics and design
- Good environment settings and elements (including the rain)
- Good variety of guns to choose from and master
- Wide selection of different enemies (so you don’t get bored of just killing one type of enemy)
- Pretty lackluster storyline
- Does not have a good communication system
- The difficulty in the game dramatically increases
